Hi Everyone,
I know we have had a few threads on air con before but we haven't discussed the various options, who has gone for what and why, etc. Can anyone who has installed/is installing air con advise which system they've gone for and why ? I'm struggling to get info on why different options are better than others (single split / multi split, inverters, etc). Your input would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi Kev & Elaine,
It all gets a bit technical with single split/multi split and inverters, but Gary from Polar Air installed ours for us and did explain the difference both face to face and via email. We then made our choice based on his info. I can highly recommend him and his team.

Hi Kevin, I went for 3 seperate units, 1 in each bedroom and 1 in the lounge. I also used Gary (Polarair), and his reasoning was that should there ever be a problem with one, you still have use of the other 2 whilst that one is down. The external boxes take up a little more room, but mine are fixed with 2 side by side and one above at the top of the steps, and I don't think they are a proble. The units are Diatsu A class, which have a reasonable running cost, and are easily enough to cool the apartments.
As with pauline, I have no hesitation in recommending Gary.

I did the same as ted. Got 3 in, 3 out and chose the daitsu inverters i think. They are the ones that blow hot and cold. Our outside ones are in a row upstairs and dont take up much room and look tidy.
I highly recommend Gary and his team , they worked quickly and tidily. He was in at 9am and finished by 2pm.

We went for Polaris Homestyle to fit ours. We have 1 in each bedroom, and one the lounge (in a 2 bed), with 2 external units on the roof. PW wrote to us a couple of months before completion to offer Air Con, and when we got the quotes off them they came out reasonably competetive. They have the benefits of fitting them BEFORE completion, and it also means that you can hassle tjhem on site at CdA if you have any issues with them (which we've already done).
PW homestyle did 2 sorts of AC units - one qas about twice as much as the other but both provide hot and cold air. We went for the cheaper option which PW recommended to us (they said the expensives ones were cheaper to run, but if you aren't living there it wouldn't be worth it).
You can probably get the units installed for a couple of hunder Euros cheaper, but I def. advise getting a quote from Homestyle to compare..

We are also going to be using Gary from Polarair. So far he has been great at helping me decide which units to get in terms of inverter/model etc. From what I understand Inverter models are slightly more expensive to install but are cheaper to run. As we are planning to rent our apartment out we have decided that in the long run this option should be more economical.
Like others have said, the benefit of getting 3 internal and 3 external units is that if 1 unit breaks down it's not your whole air-con thats out of action. We are also going for the ones which blow out hot and cold air and when asked, Gary said that they should blow out enough hot air to heat the apartments comfortably, but I guess only time will tell on that one.
Like you, we have bought a Penthouse apartment, and the only problem Gary foresees with installing aircon on these apartments is that the roof terrace is not that big, so we might have to finish up going for 3 internal units and 2 external units. If you check the Los Naranjos forum under the thread air-con update, I mention 1 or 2 other things that I spoke to Gary about.

After consultation with Gary, we are also going with a 3 : 2 configuration. I will go with the Panasonic e-on inverter type. As Simon states, a bit dearer on the installation - but cheaper to run in the long run. We don't have a plan to rent in the short-term, but may do in the future, so it will be benfit. 2 Condensers gives enough contingency for breakdown (2 bedroom ones running of one common Condenser).
I am just happy we can get them on the roof now. Space on the Patios is limited from what I can see & what space we have we need for more useful stuff I.
Only herad good feedback from Polarair, so I hope I will add to that when Gary does mine.

Gary from Polarair installed ours last week while we were there. We went for 2 units, 1 in lounge, one in Bedroom 1 of our upstairs apt. Two units on roof also.

Hi all, we have gone with Polarair as well, 3 units in total and 2 outside. 2 x 700 for the bedrooms and 1 x 1200 for the living room. Gary is also fitting a surge protection unit for us as i've been told they do have power drops and surges in Spain which could ruin your fridge/freezer. TV etc.

Hi all
Can anyone who has a 3 bed.ground floor jardin let me know the configeration of outside condensers they have for the air.con. as you need 4 inside and it makes sense to 4 separate units outside but are wondering if there is enough room to put on the one wall. Or has anyone any more views on this?

I have a 3 bedroom as well. I am only going for 3 interior and 1 exterior, they are called multsplit. I am not getting one for the smaller room as the unit in the lounge is facing the door of the bedrrom so hopefully the hot/cold air will circulate into that room. You can also get 4 interior and 2 exterior

Can Recommend Gary from Polarair.
He installed the Panasonic e-ion units in our apartment and they are fantastic. Very very quiet and powerful.
Arranged everything via email and telephone with him and he will advise you as to best solution.
I managed to meet him when over in September, he is a really nice guy and very professional.
Cannot recommend him highly enough.

We also used Gary from Polarair and would highly recommend him.
We also had Panasonic e-ion units fitted with 2 outside boxes and he also fitted us a surge protector.
I think he's having a lot of problems at the moment with pre installation, ours being one of the few that he can't fix himself
The living room unit is up and running but we are waiting for Polaris to fix the pre installation for the bedrooms. He did say that as he is on site for the next 10 weeks, he would go back to the apartment to check that all was working correctly.
