NEW YEARS EVE

Hello everyone

Just to clarify my position Karren, I have no problem if a bona fide group are booking for New Year's Eve but I have owned several businesses in my lifetime and I really resent the drumming up of a rent-a-crowd to "bully" a business owner into giving a special deal to only some customers.  

De Vere have priced the New Year's Eve Dinner at a fair price for everyone and some of us have already booked our places at that rate. I will be understandably upset if one person uses this forum to drum up a crowd - not a genuine group of friends, travel group or people who acutally would normally spend time together - but a cobbled together group who barely know each other but who are together only to get a discount. I imagine that if De Vere bow to this pressure that they will quite rightly insist that the group is entirely adults as to give a discount on an already discounted child price would be ridiculous and they will alienate the people who have already reserved their places both Spanish and English speaking. So come on Sugar if you are such a good customer of the clubhouse do the decent thing and pay the going rate that we have all paid and quit whining.

well I have got to say i am laughing my socks off with the last comment, rent a crowd indeed. alsoI really dont think there is any bullying going on at all.Sugermummy made a suggestion thats all.

As well as being a travel agent, my husband and I also own several pizza restaurants in the north-east area and we are often asked to give discount for parties of 9 plus.We welcome them in, the more the merrier.

Do you honestly think  anyone in this forum would stoop so low as to use bullying tactics.... we are all owners of Roda Golf after all.I hope anyone with a large group does get a discount

Oh my goodness ! I am sure that sugarmummy wishes they had never mentioned a discount for a group booking now ! I have already booked for NYE along with 4 friends and it really doesnt bother me if a larger group books and gets a discount -  There is never any harm in asking the restaurant   (or whatever it may be)  for a reduced rate for large bookings- they can always say no !  To be honest I cant believe that people are getting so wound up about it  and I have refrained from commenting on the subject previously  but just couldnt any longer ! Does everyone think we all pay the same for everything - ?!  We just dont normally hear about it !!  Does it really make a difference if you've stayed at Roda umpteens time ?! I dont think so ! Why dont we just all leave it be now and just hope that we all enjoy a good night - whatever we have paid - and a Merry Christmas to you all !!!

I must be doing something wrong I wish I owned a pizza shop. WHAT THE HELL has owning a travel agent and a pizza shop got to do with anything. To me in the current situation regarding the economy I personally don not think its a good idea owning either.... But thats my opinion

actually i didnt say i owned a travel agent, only pizza shops but also work as a travel agent.If you had read the message the point was that many people in both these trades ask for a group discount.( WHICH WAS THE POINT I HAD MADE) In this current climate i am doing very well, thank you very much.

well I own a donut shop and if there where 5 couples in the queue and the all grouped together and ask me for discount I wouldn`t drop the price of my donuts...........

I will be highly noticable on new years eve with my beige chequered suit, white crocadile shoes and my piano keyboard tie which I have worn on NYE for the last 16 years

You, wangy, certainly have made lots of posts since you joined the forum.  In fact it doesn't seem very long since you joined!

You seem to have lots to say about others thoughts.  If someone wants to get discount, let them - that is their business.  I for one love a bargain especially in the current economic climate!  Are you not the same "wangy" who is looking for a keen price on a web design??  And the same "wangy" who believes the "salesmans" pitch.

I rest my case!

I appreciate valuable thoughts on the forum not childish playground behaviour!

Personally I see no problem at all in asking, no one is bullying, for a discount for reasonable size groups, after all Roda Golf constantly advertise discounted rates for groups of 12 or more.

Any self respecting business would be happy to ensure they are fully sold out by offering a small incentive for groups unless they were convinced they did not need to, such as sailing on the final voyage of the QE2.

As for people paying different prices, that is a fact of life such as booking flights or holidays. A classic example is again Roda Golf's policy of charging 80 Euros pp before deals to someone who walks in off the street to play whilst if they book through one of the many agents online or in person they would pay 65 Euros before deals and even less if they join one of the many local societies, how equitable is that?

Mind you this is just my opinion.

Just to put a completely different slant on this thread and to add a comment that I have been dying to add for a while, could I respectfully point out that Roda Golf  is in fact in Spain and not in England. It is not and hopefully never will be English, it is Spanish, with Spanish residents and Spanish owned. The Spanish would never ask  for a discount for large numbers because invariably they dine out in large numbers any way. Preferential treatment should not be given to the English because they are regular users of the Clubhouse, they are golfers, they are owners, or they are English. 

I am English living here because I do not wish to live in England, I like Spain and the Spanish, I do not and more importantly will not have my life dictated to by the English owners on this resort. Who do you people think you are?  This immature, juvenile argument about discounts etc on New Years Eve is pathetic and so typical. 

I am an owner, I live here, I have taken the time and a great deal of effort to learn the language, I have Spanish friends and I have integrated as much as I can and still I hold a great deal of respect for the Spanish because I am living in their country. They are wonderfully tolerant people particularly of the English who moan and whinge all the time.  Yes, I do get frustrated at the Spanish at times but considering the ridiculous and outrageous comments on here from English people, I'll take the Spanish any day.  Roda Golf is in Spain, if you wanted something English, then you should have bought an apartment in Bournemouth.

Talking when you should have been reading!!!  I didn't ask for any discount at the clubhouse, but if someone wants to, let them. Once you have read and fully understood my piece then you can answer back.   Live and let live, this forum doesn't need your arrogant or ignorant attititude!
