Local Vineyards / Bodegas

I am just starting my research on local wines. Has anyone visited any of the local Bodegas / Vineyards. HAve recently tried a few of the local wines and they are excellent. Lorca and Yecla Whites and Jumilla Reds (several on the club house wine list).

Any tips welcome but if necessary I will just have to go out and try them all myself???????????????

There's an article on the winesof Jumilla in the Sept/Oct edition of Living Spain which may be of interest to you.  It features the Bodega Casa de la Ermita (www.casadelaermita.com) which offers guided tours and tastings of their wines.  That may be a good place to start.

Hi,
We went to the Castano winery in Yecla a month or so ago for a visit, tasting & meal. It was very enjoyable and the meal was excellent, however we wish we had enquired about the price beforehand. We expected to pay about 15 euros each, but it turned out to be 3x that. We also spent about 100 euros on wine between the 4 of us - so an expensive day! However we did meet an Aussie wine grower, also on a visit, who makes MAD DOG WINE and he offered to buy us a meal if we were ever in the Barrosa valley!!!

Unfortunately, the 1st two bottles (white wine) we have opened have been off, but the reds were very good.
