Have just received this email from VIP hotspots in relation to my enquiry as to whether our Manzana had wifi connection yet.  I plan on calling them to day to clarify, but I thought the wifi points were installed in La Reserva - was not aware we would have to pay nearly €400 to get this service - or have I got it wrong - Seamus Kilcock - you have said you used this successfully - did you have to have your own installation.

In response to your e-mail I am sending you more information about our current packages and offers. Should you be interested in having an Internet connection when you are out in December, please reply to this e-mail with a time and date that would be convenient to you so that I may make the booking well in advance to insure that our special offer will still be available for you.

 Basic package:

Our Basic Home Package, which includes a 2,4Ghz receiver connected to your computer via network cable, is €299. This is for the equipment and technician’s service fee for installation.

There is no contract with this service, allowing you full flexibility in your payment terms on a pay as you go system. You can sign up for whatever timeframe you need, from 1 hour for €1 up to a 1 year for €192 at a time (or pay monthly at €20), and you will receive 24/7 unlimited internet access during that chosen period of time.

*Save €100 with our new Special Offer*

With our current special offer we can offer you the installation free of charge, bringing the price down to just €199 for the equipment only.

Wifi package:

Should you be interested in having a wireless connection inside your property for Laptops, PSPs, PDAs, Wiiis… we can install an WiFi Access Point as well for an additional charge of only €149.

VoIP:
We can also provide you with an IP telephone for only €49, with which you can makeFREE national and international calls to landlines in more than 50 countries worldwide. Calls to mobiles will be charged from as little as €0,04 per minute.
All the above prices are including IVA/VAT.
Please feel free to contact us on the e-mail address or telephone number provided below and ask for Becky should you have any further questions.
Please note as well that this is a limited special offer and selling fast, so, if you are interested, I would advise that you get contact us as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to welcoming you as a VIP customer

No need for 'hard wire' connection Maddy so long as your laptop has 'wireless' capability.

When last in La Reserva (Amatista) in October I had no trouble using it and thespeed was ok too.

I signed up on line for the week I was there.

Have your credit car with you! The rates are reasonable.

Seamus

P.S. I've sent you PM

It is the same in most areas of La Reserva urbanisation - wireless capability with good speed at low cost.

Not one wifi company on the coast offers home installations for less than a few hundred euros but logged in easily from the apartment on laptops without needing one anyway.

Also logged on outside (and inside) Andy´s Bar Restaurant, La Reserva Bar Restaurant and Z-bar when last over a few weeks ago. Signals everywhere!

Was in my La Reserva Amatista apartment recently for 12 days and found the Internet service provided by VIP Hotspot very unreliable.

Out of the 12 days I had service for only 8.

I sent them an email (when I got home) on the 29th Dec and have not got any response to date i.e. 31st Dec.

I also noticed when whilst the download speed can be good - up to 3000/4000 kbps - the upload speed

can be as low as 24 kbps!  No use if you want to play Bridge on line.

In summary they need to get their act together and also improve their customer service.

At the week-ends they cannot be contacted after 2 pm on Sat and not at all on Sunday.

If only there was an alternative service - can't beat competition.

Although I was assured by VIP Hotspot that we would be able to access the internet from our apartment as they had La Reserva covered, when we were there in December we had no signal whatsoever.  Called them in and they said they needed to set up a repeater station in the hills around Cabopino golf course and until that happened they would be unable to get a signal to our apartment, even with us having an antennae installation.

We had a guest arriving for New Year who needed to work whilst there and so internet was vital.  I contacted Y-Internet at Calahonda (this is where the hotspot and Andy's Bar is from).  We had a very weak signal from them on our terrace without antennae.  They managed to install in time for our visitors and am assuming all is working fine as we have not heard to the contrary from him.

If it helps I know someone who has the internet from Teleweb Tel 952 833 300, email info@teleweb-marbella.com  He says that he has never had a problem and also has a telephone system with a UK No with it. When I made enquiries they could not reach Phase 2, however anyone in Amitista can get it.  With there system you have to fit a small antenna. According to Teleweb this is the only sure way of getting reliable internet into your apartment. Hope that helps

Hi Grop and all

Call me old fashioned, I have had my Internet and phone line, with Telefonica for two years now. The service has been excellent. I spend a lot of time on the internet with business and research, "Touch Wood" it has never let me down. I appreciate its not the cheapest, however judging by what I read and hear about "Other" service providers You get what you pay for.

I'm Happy

Falklands
