Hi All,

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing but my Electricity keeps tripping out the main switch as soon as you put more than a couple of things on.  It especially happens when you start cooking then everything trips out leaving you in the pitch black, it is very frustrating.....  Does anyone know how to rectify this at all??? can the mains switch in the consumer unit be uprated?? will the wiring allow it to be uprated???

Yes PW (Iberdrola) only a fit a low rated Switch. It can be uprated at a cost (Dontknow how much) not sureif it is sealed and has to be done by Iberdrola or not. Mine not fitted yet so cant tell you, but i will be looking to uprate it.

It is a two minite Job to do with the right switch and could be done by anyone (Should be Electrician) if it does not have a seal.

Hi All

Ibderola only put in a 15amp Fuse / Switch and it realy needs to be 25amp minimum , unfortuanatly when they fit this they do put a seal on the Switch Cover so  am afraid it realy is a job for Ibderola , if you break the seal to do it yourself any problems in the future and Ibderola will not want to know .

The lower rated Fuse?

Is this a money making excersize by Iberola.

If everyone has the same problem & Iberola are called out to upgrade every time

what a nice little earner it will turn out to be.

Maybe we should complain.to PW.

I am sure that as a  company Iberola should be aware of the fuse capabilities.

Hi Jan

Someone did complain to PW that their electricity was tripping out and were told that it was not their problem as they were now on mains electricity supply and Ibderola were the electricity suppliers , so down to them.

I am not sure how much Ibderola charge to upgrade , but you can bet it will not be cheap!!!!!!!!!!

Regards

Endpeg ( Steve )

Thanks for that Steve.

I wonder if they ( Iberola )would do a cheaper rate if there were a number of us wanting to upgrade.

They could do it in one day rather than  lots of single trips.

We are not going over until 18th of this month. Not sure who`s electricity will be conected , if at all.

We are waiting for conformation from our Solicitor who is supposed to be dealing with every ting that end.

Emma from Snaggit Murcia is also trying to find out for us.

Watch this space  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just before we left our apartment on New Years Eve the elecricity started clipping on and off. It came back on of its own accord each time- we thought maybe some work was being done somewhere. At that point only our fridge freezer was on.

Is this what other people have been experiencing?

Just logged in and out to check our Bank Account and 150 odd euro's was taken out on the 29th Dec and a further 7.50 euro's (standing charge?) on the 31st Dec

Is this something we should have been prepared for and arranged for the upgrade although I dont recall reading anything about this. If its standard practice why dont PW advise of that rather than have to fend dozens of enquiries?

Hi all

Am i missing something here, the electricians are installing a fuse that is not rated high enough to cope with the appliances that they themselves have installed and people are willing to pay money to get them to fix the problem that they created,,, i dont think so, at the end of the day you bought the property from polaris and they employed the electricians so they should be the ones to sort this out with the electricians as they should rate the properties needs before fitting the main fuse,, just bombard polaris with phone calls and insist that they stop passing the buck as usual

Hi

Although we haven't exchanged at this time and therefore have no experience of the PW after sales, I do agree with Mark, surely PW must have responsibility for what has been delivered especially through a warranty period. Owners cant be expected to put their hands in their pockets every time a fault is found with the quality of product delivered by PW, you can be assured the local people who buy on the complex wont be paying for any upgrades.. One for my solicitor I think!!

Question for Jan &Mick, the 150€ that came out of your bank account, was this a surprise and was it related to the Electrical suppler?

Neil.

The 150 euro's  and 7.50 is identified to Iberola on our account- which seems to tally with the figures others have quoted on the forum.

Steve (endpeg) my husband is asking how you have come by the information about the size of the fuse? It makes no sense for them to fit something that cant cope with the requirements, when for a fe euros more they could have fitted the right thing straight away. We had been told that the transfer from builders supply to Iberola would be 200 euro's, so we wouldnt have been any the wiser.

Hi All

I am an electrician working on Condado ( nothing to do with PW or Ibderola I hasten to add  ) and I have seen for myself the fuses that they put in , also I have had several enquirys as to whether I can change these fuses to a higher ampage , but sorry no can do as the fuse boxes are sealed.

Sorry for the bad news folks but if I were you I would talk to PW about this , the wiring will withstand a 45amp fuse if need be , there is nothing wrong with the wiring of the propertys ( apart from the typical Spanish way of using whatever colour live wire that they have in the van) as I have said on a previous thread.

I hope that a few of you get together and make your point to PW.

Good Luck and Welcome to Spain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Endpeg ( Steve )

Thanks Steve.

This is confusing us as we think Iberdrola did the exchange on 24th Dec but we didnt experience any signs of a problem until 31st Dec. If they changed the fuse they must have done that on the 24th Dec but we were in the apartment with radiators, tv , lights, fan heater, fridge, freezer, hairdryer, a Wii, kettle, radio etc etc and no electricity problems from the 26th to the 31st. Just as we were leaving the FFreezer tripped a couple of times and brought itself back on.

On the Iberdrola site it requests when you phone you have a bill and an account number available. Therein lies a problem for many as they are probably in our post boxes. Not that we plan to pay up just like that but if worst comes to worst  we are stuck and  we have people staying in the apartment soon.

I'll make an enquiry with PW

Yes, we'll post how we get on although I hope anyone who has problems will also contact PW. We're not at CdA now so dont know if the problems have developed, other than from this and other forums. Our concern is that if this is a genuine problem then our next visitors will be left to cope and thats by no means ideal.

Our understanding is that people have had their power changed over in the last couple of months but its only now comments have arisen- so is it not an issue for some owners and if not why not?

Hi all,

I was wondering how this problem was affecting those permanent residents living out on Condado especially the property managers amongst you who make regular use of the washing machine.

When we were out in November we had the washing machine, oven, tv, radiators and lights on at the same time and there didn't seem to be a problem.

Hi Mike and Dawn.

This is whats confusing us as if it is down to the fuse then to our knowledge ours was swopped on the 23rd or 24th Dec and we used electricity to the max between 26th to 31st apparently with that 'lower' fuse in place with no problems- until just as we were leaving and we put that down to work being done somewhere. Also its not been mentioned on the forum before so are only some people affected? Although our power tripped it kept coming back on of its own accord.

Anyway, as I said previously we'll make a call this week to see if we get any clarity. If we have to get them back, so be it but the problem  then lies with when and how.

Has anyone paid to have the switch uprated yet and if so how much was it. Who do you contact to get it done? I intend to complain like everyone else, but if it is only a small amount I would rather get it done than go weeks or months trying to get satisfaction from some obscure person buried in customer service somewhere.

Hi Mike abd Dawn,

If 'it keot coming back on of it;s own accord' ir doesn't should like the breaker is tripping as this would need a reset.  More likely to be due to PW doing some work somewhere.

Hi Phil, yes this is what we had been thinking till reading the thread, as there were workmen working on the slip road (golf course side) of our garden. But I'll make an enquiry anyway with PW to be certain.

Dakey- if you go on Iberdrola's site there is an english option and a 'query message' email section so you could ask them a question. They also provide phone numbers but I did see that they ask you to have an account number which could be a problem if your bill is in your post box however they may be able to answer a query.

Hi All,

It has nothing to do with the electricity supply being cut off or worked on it is the main fuse tripping out constantly if you put too many items on at once and by too many I mean the lights, TV and then attempt to cook hardly a lot of electrical items!!! I am out next weekend and will check what fuse has been fitted but it is very frustrating when everything keeps going off especially when you are caught in total darkness in the bathroom!!!!!  Have you tried watching a film on DVD when the bloody power trips out every few minutes it's like groundhog day and keeps going back to the start of the film>>>> OMG you should have heard the kids whinging...... all for the sake of a bigger fuse.......
