Hi, don’t know about you all, but one of the major factors to us in buying at Condado was to play Golf, (Why else would one live on a Golf Course) and before making our decision we enquired about Golf prices. The sheet we were given had an Annual Family Ticket fee for 1300€ which meant we could play perhaps 2 or 3 times a week which appeared to be a good deal, with this in mind we went ahead with our purchase and now live full time at Condado.
Yesterday whilst at La Torre we asked for the latest price list for residents Golf.
18 Holes for 55€,
9 holes for 40€,
10 rounds for 440€ which must be played within 2 months, (44€ per Round)
4 rounds for 200€ which must be played within 1 month. (50€ per Round)
There are no longer any Annual Fees.
This means now if we wish to fulfil our dream of playing Golf 2 or 3 times a week it will cost us around 5,280€ per year? As you can imagine we are rather annoyed at this as it means we can no longer afford to play Golf ?
There is another option and that is buy a 25 Years Rights to Golf for 45,000€ plus 800€ per Year Maintenance Fee, I can not see many people taking this option, as a large portion of owners are 50 plus? And who has a spare 45,000 to spend.
I feel I need to write a rather strong letter to Polaris World but do not know who to aim it at for the most impact ? can any one help ?
Does anyone else feel the same, or is it just us. ?
Mick

Very disappointing, the one thing that concerns me seeing such high prices for residents on a Nicklaus design course; how much will they charge for a Nicklaus signature course and 'Bears Best' I can see fess of €75 upwards. Add on top of that any increase from hosting a prestigious event in next few years allowing them to use the words 'PGA' It isn't gong to be cheap..

This is the second year since gold debentures was intriduced. There was an uproar then, and it did not make any difference. I also bought for the golf and am now playing other courses using thier "offers" to keep prices down. Polaris have done the dirty on us all, but from what I understand the courses have been sold onto a third party, and you may find polaris courses are polaris in name only.

Stay patient chaps,
My view is that market forces will force the price of green fees down in the end. There is too much competition in Murcia region now, coupled with the credit crisis. PW or anybody else who may own the courses cannot afford them to empty all day & having nobody using the clubhouses. Already ther are stories that HR course is not being used to potential. Prices have to drop....

When we stayed at Mar Menor in September , whilst fitting out our apartment, we played the 9 hole course there. It cost us 45 E for the 2 of us which we thought was not too bad. 2 days later we went to play again, booked, and on arrival was asked for 90E .
We complained and was told that we were given a 2 for 1 deal the previous time. They refused point blank to reduce the cost and when I asked them how many people they had booked in that day the answer was NONE.
So while I hope Skell is right about market forces, I really donot believe PW want to reduce prices. The old Market forces arguement seems only to work one way with them.

We also bought with Polaris for golf and are bitterly dissapointed now as well.
Prices have gone out of control and we have ended up playing our golf elsewhere.
If it helps we have found RODA GOLF which is close by.
It is great value and a fantastic golf course in tip top condition and only cost 45€ a round.
Also great clubhouse and food.

Hi All
When we agreed to by we also asked about golf charges and was given information on annual/pay and play fees, which formed part of our decision process in deciding to buy, but as we all have now learnt, any information given by PW staff is worthless they will say and do anything to achieve there own aims.
I agree with other comments, don’t pay it and they will have to reduce the cost.
I thing they are hoping that owners will buy the 25 year membership they offered at the silly money they wanted and also hoping that people who stay in rented accommodation will just pay and play at the rip-off charges they are making, which they may do once, but they are unlikely to come back and be ripped off again reducing likelihood of repeat renters. If I was renting out I would make sure my apartment had plenty of information about other courses in the area.
The only thing that will make PW do anything is if the golf isn’t generating income. I for one will be playing my golf at other courses until things change, and if they don’t well it’s a nice garden to look at, as I cant afford those prices.

Thanks all for replies so far.
I also am kind of hoping that prices may drop as there are a lot of courses in Murcia and many more under construction it is a bitter blow that i will not be able to play my own Golf course.
Still compiling my letter of complaint and will most likely send it to Alhama Town Council as if they recieve to many complaints about Polaris World they may start refusing permissions etc, they will have more clout that us individuals.
Having comlained about many other issues as a full time resident they have all been fobbed off with poor excuses
Perhaps once we have an owners association we will be listed to but i am not holding my breath.

I also hope the prices will drop, but think it may take some time! I have heard good things about the course at Camposol, but haven't played it yet, I believe the standard fee is €50, not sure about deals or membership, but will check next time I am out.

Hi PGM
Neither my husband or I play golf , however a large number of is collegues, our friends & neibours do.
We intend to rent & had lots off interst all ready. However the fee`s you speak of are crazy.
I think the idea of an info booklet about other, cheaper courses is a great idea. maybe then who ever owns the courses will have to give the reduction of fee`s serious concideration
Havng said that, they probably wont notice untill Condado is busy with people , but no one playing.
Maybe leaving your Golf clubs on show as you drive out of Condado will be noticed by the security guards & eventually get back to those concerned

Hi all,
Sorry but you have all lost me here. Has anybody recieved an official document stating what the prices will be for a single round of golf, WITHOUT any 2 for 1's or other offers? In other words just to turn up and play? On the fully FINISHED golf course?
Thought not. Until you have actual, factual information lets not speculate. I for one cannot see how they would/could give a definite price at this moment in time when the full course completion date is 11 months away.

Think Frank makes a good point but I know my husband was bitterly disappointed when we received the information about the life time membership even if it does cover all the PW courses. We did buy with the intention him being able to play a few times a week when we are over, and our sons, their grandfather and sundry other friends and family.. He has played at Mar Menor and La Torre so knows the 1 off prices and thinks for most renters/visitor it'll be a bonus if they get in a round of golf rather than a regular part of their visit.. This was certainly the view of the people he played with at La Torre last summer- no critisim of the course, club house or facilities just that they were playing only once or twice during their fortnight rather than regularly as had been their expectation.

I think its fair to say that judging by the prices I have seen on the 2 courses i have played, Le Torre and El Valle (far superior btw) there is no reason to expect prices at CdA to be any cheaper. Personally i am in agreement with the majority that they are missing a trick in pricing folks out. I too am interested in Camposol, i saw it from the road last time we were out and never ventured down to look at it but will do in March.
It is worth noting that most of time the courses have special offers on if you are prepared to play at certain times and often buggies etc are free. Doesn't solve the problem I know but savings can be had. I guess one big help would be if the pound increased its strength and we got back to 1 for 1.5 days.
Right now we are planning on going out maybe 3 or 4 times a year and so i will pay the fees a couple of times on each visit as the courses are far superior to anything i get to play at home. However I do agree that people have been treated very shoddily in respect to quoted prices. One that is set to run methinks.

Have I got the right info when looking at camposol golf- took me a while to trace this. But 'Sensol Golf at Camposol Urbanisation close to sector D', sounds right doesnt it?. However, green fee's quoted at 50 euro's for 18 holes and 28 euro's for 9 holes golf buggy 30 euro's- on the info page I pulled up it said no offers available but ask on booking. Hi,
Alhama Signature Course is the jewel in the crown on the Nicklaus Golf Trail. The length of the holes, the medal tees, the shaping of the course, the infrastructure on it, the grand club house, the fact that Jack himself is the arcitect, the fencing around, the thousands of parking lots outside the fence... All these facts tell what an ambitious project this is. They want big tournaments here, no doubt. The Ladies European Tour, The European Tour, some rumours even talk about The Ryder Cup...
If this happen, it will be a big, big bonus for us as the value of our properties will rise. That is the upside. The downside is that the green fee rates will be stiff. We can not compare some of the courses we are playing on back home with this project. For some of us, it is like comparing a Lada with a Ferrari. The signature course will be one of the best courses in Europe. At least, that is the ambition. Ad in the long run, I think we all will be proud of it.
I am not expecting to play this course several times a week. But hopefully PW are sensible enough to keep the prices down on the Bears Best courses and the other PW courses in the area. Hopefully they will reintroduce the annual memberships, and hopefully they will run a free shuttle service between the resorts.

Hi All,
Regarding Campasol Golf.
When we were over in November I visited the golf club and the green fees quoted were 50 euro for 18 holes. I spoke to a number of members and walked part of the course with 2 of them. They told me that they had a new green keeper and the course was improving each week.
From what i witnessed it was in pretty good shape, maybe not as good as La Torre but there were plenty of people playing and everyone I spoke to was happy with the course.
We are over in March next and intend to play Campasol.
Until we get our course up and playable Campasol is a good option only being 10 mins down ther road.
I have posted the score card with course layout in the phots section for anyone interested. Also have them in better resolution .pdf format which I will send to anyone if you pm me.

the cheapest and imho the best way to play golf in spain for permanent residents and holiday makers is to join a golf society.alot of xpats do this and will benefit from reduced tariffs and the opportunity to play many different courses as well as make new friends .there is usually a dinner after most events to which partners are invited..the local ones are at camposol(sensol)(back 9 is terrific apparantly) ,san javier ,hacienda(which apparantly is the best gc in the area ) and la serena.i play as a guest for a society south of torrevieja and have never paid more than 40e.so go along introduce yourself and im sure you will all be widely welcomed.
http://www.sanjaviergolfsociety.co.uk/calendar.php?id=141
as you can see it only costs 31 euros to play as a member.
as far a pw are concerned twilight rounds are on offer at the moment at 30 euros from 2 pm i think.i will be very surprised if the annual membership is not reinstated..to this end a boycott has been set up against the 25 year offer as if this fails(and last i hear there are than 10 takers) then pw will be forced to reintroduce the annual membership.they have temporarily cancled it to try and force people to take the 25 year deal.

Hi George
This would be a fantastic idea to have a Condado Golf Society, I haven’t the first idea how we could set one up but I am sure someone will, I would certainly be willing to assist in the development of one, has anyone any knowledge, experience, ideas or suggestions?
Regards
Phil

I can state the figures quoted in my first post starting this thread are Factual taken from the price list handed to me at La Torre The lady also stated all PW Golf courses charge the same prices. the only speculation here seems to be the Signature course could cost more?
I am all for a Condado Golf Society or any other Society that allows me to play for a reasonable cost.
