Yes we were in the3 call centre today and were also told it is ready for a one off 400€ for all the freeview channels.

(No mention of our share of the 188,045.00 € Jardines and 78,286.00€ per year to maintain the TV Systems - From Proposed Annual Budget )   Average 7.39€ each /month

Phil

I think the problem we may have with the Sky boxes is do PW have to switch on the feed to individual apartments? if so I'm sure they will just say only their boxes will work.

Hopefully they will only charge a small fee to enable the feed and then we can try our own boxes, I know this was done on La Torre.

The call centre confirmed to me that only polaris boxes will work i asked if i can use a standard box as i thoiught theirs was rather expensive. I suspect they will put in a link when they install to stop people using own also i would imagine the signal could be coded so only their boxes de code it?

I have heard on La Torre it was possible to get a box that works for 50€ but so far have been unable to track down the supplier?

If any one knows then let me know before i part with 400€ i cant live with current set up much longer

Hi Dan,

Looking at the way the satellite feed is supplied ( yep i have looked - sad git that I am ) I cannot see that they can isolate an individual apartment.  I'll PM you the techy stuff so as not to bore the entire forum,

Phil

Hi Jardineers,

Before I can think of what channels we are going to be able to view, can someone tell me what leads i'll need to take out, anything special.

We are bringing out a tv & freesat box just in case. But according to the recent general assembly, dishes are frowned upon

400€ (one off charge) is for about 65 english channels and all the other european channels but not subscription channels for this you need to pay extra dont know the cost. this uses Polaris World digi box.

Cristina will give you list of TV channels

As for Sky box plug it in and see what you get? (Sat Socket) services are available so if it does not work then services are scrambled like La Torre which i suspect is the case! (To stop us using cheaper digi boxes) if it works PM me and i will rush out and buy a cheaper box?

Is the 7.39 euro's per month for maintenance etc ( as quoted at meeting) possibly what La Torre residents are now being charged ( or being threatened with being charged)  11 euros for per month?

I believe the average charge (from current Budget) of 7 + Euros is for the maintenance of the TV system and allows for software updates to digi boxes, adding more channels, fixing cables, aerial maintenance and costs to the relevant european TV networks for re-broadcasting their services I have asked our "Administrators" for details of this but not had a reply yet.

Guess they will have to explain it at the next meeting.

I have tried my own Sky box over the weekend, and it´s definitely not working. The signal strength is way too low to lock on a signal. Techy bit - there are 5 closely grouped satellites up there of relevance to us Brits. I have experimented by changing the box´s default transponder to ones from all 5 satellites, but to no avail. I´ve even switched leads around in the panel on the wall by the kitchen.  Nothing doing !

I´ve been to see Cristina re the 400 Euro box.  You have to pay by cash as she doesn´t have a debit/credit card machine at this stage !  Also, you cannot take the box with you, you have to book an appointment for a Tuesday or Thursday when someone will come round and install it. They may well be throwing some switch or making some connection in the panel next to the leccy meters. Our panel was locked so I couldn´t ´experiment´ !
