Mosquitos

A purely frivilous question but- are we likely to be bothered by mosquitos as a result of all the water on CdA. We have always been quite lucky on our visits to Spain and haven't had a problem and I wondered if they are specific to certain areas.

Have just been going through the photo's on site with a visitor who made the comment about mosquitos being a problem.

If so what the best way of dealing with them- I've seen you can get plug in deterrents- would anyone recommend them?

When holidaying in portugal, mozzy`s were a big problem.

We always bought plug ins but they were of a tablet form

I think you can buy liquid types now which are less ugly & bulky.

We would always spray all rooms before going out for the evening & then put the plug in`s in. these were left in all night. though there were mozzy nets the Villa was old & there were small holes in them as we found to our cost on our first visit.

You couldnt spray & stay in the room as it was quite toxic I think . the plug ins were ok though,

We spent 2 weeks in Hacienda  last June & there was a liquid type in the lounge area. We only came across 1 mozzy that was alive & that was in the bathroom during the day. The property over looked a lake . so that might account for our visitor. Didnt notice the plug in until the day before we left as it was  hiiden by the dinning table. It must have been on all  the time we were there as the switch was on & we had not touched it.

Went over to Condado 2 or 3 times. only day time though & no sign of mozzy`s then. but I think they are usually Evening & night time creatures ar`nt they ?

I doubt if we will buy the nets but will get plug ins just in case.

I would sugest 1 per room but ask the spanish people as I`m sure they would be more ofey with that sort lof thing of course you can buy stuff to put on if you are sitting out in the evening & you can get that from Boots & such places.

You can also buy Candles Ideal for the table. Not to sire if they would detere mozzys, they cirtanly get rid of midges etc her in the Uk

I think Colonial candles do them if not there is a party plan company called partylite they might have a site on the web

You will need quite a few though if you want small ones or buy large ones if they do them

Problem is carrage over unless there is a spanish site as they will deliver.

We have used the candles before for midges- I'd forgotten about that.

I'm advised by my better half that we have a plug in already in the apartment that he purchased and had plugged in in October- but not because he thought there'd be mozzies just for any bugs. I hadnt noticed it at all!!

Probably get a few more of those for when the weather hots up

i am no an avon rep,(honest) we have been to various countrys with mosquitos and have had no bother with them since a lady gave us a bottle of avon skin so soft, even egypt, this stuff is amazing, they do not like it!, you can spray it on yourself or we used to spray it in the room every evening before going out and up till now 5 year down the line we have never had any bother with them.

My friend  has an avon book . i will have to order some of the cream as even midges like the taste of Hams blood. They tend to leave me alone.

Hi All,

Has anybody bought mosquito screens for doors, windows etc? We have them in our apartment in Turkey and they are brilliant. Just wondered what the cost was in Spain as I'd rather the mozzies didn't get in in the first place.
