         has anybody checked their bank accounts in spain and have paid for electricity two months in a row , up untill now we have always paid our electricity every two months, but have paid this time in feb and in  march, has anybody else noticed this,

I have just checked our bank account and we too have had a payment taken in Feb and March.  Unfortunately I can't shed any light on as to why but at least you know it's not just you.

Maybe someone else knows why?

Don't be to alarmed, if you check the actual bills you will see that Portillo is now charging on a monthly basis where previously it was bimonthly.  I received a bill for Dec/Jan then a further bill for Feb only so I take they have changed their system.  You should also notice that the amount is proportionately less reflecting the one month charge.

I hope this clarifies the situation but they should have notified us of this change in advance as would be the case at home but we are not at home we are in ESPANA and its probably manana!!!!!!

There has been a great deal of discussion on this topic on the main forum.

Basically, electricity companies wanted to put up their prices & this was agreed. However to offset the impact of the price increases the government insisted that billing was changed to monthly.

As Gerry says the "standing charge" on the monthly bill is half what it was on the bi monthly bill.

The charge per kwh has gone up & the Dec/Jan bill was charged at an average of the old & the new price.

Just to add a bit to this, one month is an estimated reading and the next month is an actual reading.  For those who live here permanently it has been a nightmare as the December bill was estimated and was artificially high, ours was 108 euros but we were out of the country from 25th November until 4th January and the only thing using electric was our fridge freezer.  It didn´t right itself until the February bill when it was 31 euros.  Also they are adding a penalty for excessive use, can´t remember how many Kw´s are involved but our neighbours December bill was 225 euros and included a charge for ´over use´, how mad is that?
