New Discount Card From Polaris

I have been trying, in vain, to obtain a Polaris Discount card for 3 weeks. I have just received a call from a lady in Murcia giving me details of the ALL NEW DISCOUNT CARD.

In summary you get 10% of all drinks at all Polaris Bars, You get 50% off your food bill (When 2 people dine) at any polaris restaurant/bar. 5% off polaris supermarkets and homeware stores etc.

You get 25% off all spa treatments, 10% off golf shop and also a decent discount on Green fees.

All sounds pretty good, but it does cost 140 Euros. However if you sign up today, blah blah blah, you get a free night at the intercontinental for 2 with breakfast and a massage for 1, plus an hours golf lesson.

You would make back your money on the night in the hotel alone, then the half price meals would be the icing on the cake, however I dont really need a night in a Mucia hotel, when I have a place there.

I am considering joining, what does everyone else think?.....

Oh and one other quick question which is the best intercontinental, Mar Menor or La Torre. I get a choice, please advise!

My only comment would be -

"But what about all the members of the current club?"    I, as do many, have an existing club card.  Are these still valid?  Has PW replaced them without bothering telling existing card holders?    To be this is just another example of PW pi** poor customer relations.

To be quite honest with what you are getting for 140 euros isn't bad, but how long is this card going to last? 

12 months 2 years? 

Mind you I'm tempted as I wouldn't mind staying at the new Intercontinental on Le Torres, with all the trimmings, saw it on its opening night New Years and it looks fab!  Mind even learn to play golf.    MMMmmmm.......

What is the discount on Green Fees - and is it a discount from the owners rate or the basic rate?  In all honesty, not convinced the other discounts come to much, 10% of drinks (so only 40% higher than other establishments), 50% of food for 2 - but what about sad singles (like me!!) - although I could probably eat 2 meals!! ..........

But, if golf reduction is good, then the card could be worth the price.

How can PW possibably offer a 50% discount on all food for 140 EUR per card & still make money from the restaurants, unless their prices are overflated by 60% in the 1st place.........

Ted, I dont play golf (I know its crazy to buy on a golf resort!)so kind of switched off when she started telling me about the prices, she is calling me back in the morning so I will check into this for you.

I dont know if this is a one off fee or a annual fee, maybe if its an annual fee this would explain how they can offer the discounts in the restaurants.

I suppose the restaurants are hoping to break even on the food and then sell you an expensive wine, or lots of beer, as you only get 10% off drinks?

Has nobody else been approached yet? I think they only called me becasue I keep mythering them for one of the free cards that everybody (except me) has.

What would a meal at the restaurant withing the intercontinental cost me? Still trying to work out if this is good value (seems it to me?)

I assume that the existing cards will expire shortly, and everyone will need to buy one of these!

As an owner at COndado, does anyone know if I can use the pools at the intercontinental hotels? last time I visited they charged me 15 euros?

'Sad singles'  cough cough!  Just would like to say not all singles are sad! 

Think of it this way married couples have take there partners, singles can choose who they go with! 

I'd just grab someone off the street that took my eye but that's just me,  blind!  LOL!

I would agree if there is no other discount, or promotion for golf then yes golf should be added to this card and not just beginners lesson.

It would have to be a discount on residents discounts to make it worthwhile because we already get a discount, card or no card, don't we??????

If they "are" giving 50% off meals in all restaurants and bars, it means those of us without one of "those" cards are paying double.

Thanks Darren, yes 50% - but for "a green fee" - so looks like that is just one round (for 2 people), if it was 50% as an ongoing offer would be well worth it - even as a "sad" single - I tend to find it easier to get golf partners than dinner partners (really going for that sympathy vote her girls!!).

- and Scapa I can assure you I have tried grabbing someone off the street that took my eye a few times (one black eye and two arrests, plus a restraining order to date!!)

I purchased directly through PW and not an agent, when doing so I was told that I would get discounted green fees at ALL PW courses as an owner.  Anyone else told this?  Will it happen?

Just returned and told course will be ready November and pricing will be competitive with other local courses.

Strangely PW tend to tell you a lot of things verbally but unfortunately it rarely gels with what they eventually put in writing, not to mention them just deciding to change their minds and withdrew offers without notice.

I asked about Golf, for those people who asked. They say its 20% off the "Original Price". I am not sure what discount we get as owners.

The price of the card is now 125 Euros as I am an owner... 140 Euro to none owners.

The main benefit i can see is the restaurant discount, dine 3 times and its paid for itself hasnt it?  Plus a free b&b at intercontinental? I should be snapping their hands off shouldnt I?

Will buy one tomorrow I think and keep you all posted!

The number on my caller ID was 0034968220551. Not sure who they are, but call them! They will give you all the standard "Closes" like you must sign up today etc etc.

They also mentioned a restaurant/bar at la torre. It was La something or other, aparantly you get 50% off food and Drinks at that place, which seems pretty amazing!

As I, like others, have never received the FREE card as offered when we agreed to buy even though we submitted the application forms. And having just looked at the PW member’s site they still offer this card. I have just sent them an email asking where my free card is. Not that it will achieve anything but should be good for another pointless argument with them, all good practice. I will post the response.

As owners we pay €55 for a round, vs the standard which is €65-€80 depending on season - so 20% wouldn't do anything for us. .... but at least Polaris have delivered on the promise of discounted golf fees for owners - may still be more expensive than some courses around though!  (ps - also available 4 round pass for use in 1 month - €200 or 10 round pass for use in 2 months €440)

Same here completed on 25th June 2008 and been trying to get my free card since. Think Polaris are not going to issue any more. I received an email saying my application is being looked at and should receive shortly!
