For anyone who is in doubt about the IKEA canopy we have successfully fitted ours on the upstairs pergola (Our pergola is on garden side- I believe rear pergolas may be a bit longer) . Used just the springs and chrome clips for 7 of the attachments and the 8th needs a length of cord with the spring and clip. Its pretty tight so doesnt sag and seemed to hold up okay in quite breezy conditions. We did take it down each day though just to reduce tearing opportunities although its pretty sturdy, but it takes only seconds to put back up. We had bought two originally so had more springs and clips than you get in one pack- but we can see that using the cord on some of the attachments would work too.
PS it was great to be over- met up with Mike and Dawn who were very hospitable, met with Carol and also met Kelly T. Breifly said 'hi' to golfingjim in the bar on Saturday and a brief chat with Dringman early in our visit. Its true the bar service on the Saturday was awful and eventually we went back to the apartment for a nightcap. Had planned to be more sociable but as I was struggling with an appalling cold we didnt get to meet as many people as we hoped. That said the resort looked great and we had a lovely week.
