2 bedroom apartments in the jardines i would like to know if anybody knows the size of the pipe behind the vent on the wall where the shower head is so i can bring a extractor fan across to fit into the vent in the wall
i have noticed that some people have had fans fitted in the ceiling of the bathrooms i am wondering where they vent to i assume they only go into the ceiling void

Hi,
There's ducting in the ceiling that goes to the chimley. We ( by that I mean Endpeg ) wired ours to the light on the inside switch.

The diameter of the duct is just over 4 inches, when buying a fan try to get one with quite a large flange to say approx 6" as the standard of finishing around the grill placed there by polaris is poor and this helps cover it.

Hi Ant,
I don't get too involved with the 'flashing lights & novelties' department when it comes to DIY - I was just wondering if they leave a supply wire above the ceiling for this purpose. Don't fancy the idea of having to spur a cable from the nearest switch/socket with all the disturbance that causes.
Phil,
Think I know what you are saying. Spur a cable from the centre light above the ceiling boards so that when light switches on, fan does at same time. Sounds like a job for my Bruv-in-law when I am treating him to hospitality in jardines 8 !!
Regards,

Fitted our own bathroom fan on last visit. Although the aluminium ducting is in place it was flattened and punctured by the careful PW contractors so a bit of repair work was required. The hardest bit was fishing the spur wire across the ceiling but all in all only took about 45 mins to complete with virtually no disturbance. Wired it so it comes on with the main bathroom light
I was really lucky and found a 4" duct bathroom fan in the local Wickes in the sale for £4.99 so together with the duck tape and a small length of flexible ducting from B&Q it cost us the princely sum of £15.
It has made a huge difference to the amount of condensation
