outside door handle

Has anybody changed the outside door handle from the dangerous once shut can't open without key door knob to a proper up and over or a handle just like the inside of the front door?

If so where did you get that handle?  If have been looking at local diy but can't find any..

We had this done by a guy called Tony, used the same handle but he changed the square bar inside the handle to a longer bar, looked really easy to do.

Rob- who is doing our understairs cupboard- said that you cant always get hold of those types of outside door handles in Spain but offered to do the job if we bring one over. It is something we are considering as we locked ourselves out even though we had a key up on the roof terrace we had left a key in the back of the door and couldnt turn the one we had. It was quite a struggle and without Robs help we wouldnt have got back in without a tall ladder up to a bedroom window.This was mid day and we had no water,  (or shoes) and a wilting 78 year old so it could be a difficult situation as the resort was pretty deserted when I went looking for help.

Does anyone know the size of the bar that you need?   

We recall 135 being mentioned but plan to check on that.
