Just got back from two weeks at Roda and must say what an excellent time we had.

Swimming in a perfect clean pool with excellent gardens and a great mix of British and Spanish residents all getting on well and having a great time.

Played golf and as ever the course was excellent. Played tennis had no problem booking the court it was hot but it is Spain in the middle of summer so what did we expect. I think next time I visit I will try the racket ball as that looks like a challenging sport.

Visited the excellent beaches and local restaurants.  We even had perfect sunshine for the two weeks we were staying.

We were asked at the pool to prove we were residents by are full time handy man. ( didn't mind this just made me happy that we had no non residents around our pool.)

So is it just me who thinks roda is excellent or perhaps not everyone is lucky enough to be in a phase two apartment.

Glad to hear you had an enjoyable time at Roda, it does make a welcome change from some very negative comments, some still justified, that appear on the forum. I have been paying particular attention to comments on the General forums and it seems there are some horrific stories on many communities up and down the coast.

I certainly think the appointment of a maintenance man and pool steward if you like is a great asset and money well spent.

Jill our Phase 2 apartments President is conscientious and meets often with the administrator and more importantly the garden and pool contractors to ensure they are keeping on top of things.

She and others have worked hard to ensure all the dead trees have been replaced by Roda and dead plants are replaced as often as they can. Watering of plants and lawns has been a bit of a problem as Calidona still control the automatic systems along with a very hot, sunny summer this will always permit the grass to brown in many areas, even here in the southeast UK, grass is starting to look very brown as we have had little rain.

Shortly Phase 2 community will install a new computer system for sprinklers and drip feeds and it is hoped this will improve the situation somewhat but of course they really need some rain now and again. I hope not yet though as I'm out there next week and am hoping for some good weather to unwind.

lanric,

As a phase 2 resident, it's lovely to read such a positive posting, as hugh_man says, particularly in the light of the problems that are understandably reported on the forum.   We haven't been to Roda all summer but are going to spend some time there in September and are really looking forward to seeing how the place is developing.  It's also good to read that you were asked for identification - the security issue is a concern and it seems the handyman is earning his money!

We stayed the second part of our holiday on phase 2 block 54.  It was really enjoyable.  The 'people' came round every day as far as we saw to test the water in the pool and clean out any 'bits'.  We didn't see any litter at all. Security were constantly about both in cars and on foot.  The gardeners were about most of the time.    Our Spanish neighbours were lovely although neither could speak each others language.

If we had one little issue it was a bl......... big cactus blocking our view of the pool.  CHOP IT DOWN!!!!!

I am another owner on Phase 2 and so far in the 2 years we've had the apartment have nothing major to complain about. Usual grumbles re snagging but that's life so move on. We love the place and despite having seen lots of problems on this forum are still glad we bought our apartment and use it a lot as our holiday home too when we don't have guests staying (we live about 50km away).

Re cactus and trees. As I told someone at our AGM just earlier in the year, please just live with the cactus and tree problem that we have at the moment. They will grow eventually and not block your view. What makes Roda so attractive IS the trees and plants. I've been to other urbs where there isn't a garden or bit of greenery in sight and they look depressing. We have 3 palms encroaching onto our balcony (on the 1st floor) at the moment and 2 clients have commented how wonderful they are - makes it totally private and a bit of nude sunbathing is perfectly possible.

Take the advice of Monty Python and  "Always look on the bright side of life".

A HAPPY OWNER AND LOVER OF RODA

We love Roda too and thought phase two was fine.  The cactus I referred to isn't one that would grow higher - probably just fatter.

We couldn't see the children in the pool because of it.  I agree that the gardens need trees and flowers which they do have and they are lovely but not THAT cactus.  We like to see our children from the terrace where I have to say we had a great time 'chilling out'. Lucky we had rented next  door also which had a clear view of the pool.

Even people who have had grumbles (legitimate ones)  still seem to love Roda Golf better than any other resort.  We personally think it is the best in Murcia for location, golf course and build and we have visited most of the others to view including the lovely Hacienda del Alamo (which is too far out for us) and La Manga Club which also is lovely but again - not for us - too far away to walk to the Mar Menor which you can do from Roda.

Yes - I have to say - we love Roda Golf!

Pommers,

I know what you mean about the palm trees 'encroaching onto your balcony!   We have a couple that are a bit too close for comfort at the moment, but are happy to wait for them to grow - they will look wonderful and hopefully provide some shade for years to come.

Didn't notice any dead plants but the gardeners seemed to be regrassing lawned areas where we were. They had sectioned off these areas - I assume to stop people walking on them and allowing the grass regrow.
