what to do on a rainy day ?!

Hi all - Im  looking for  some ideas of things to do and places to go if the weather is not up to much - apart from the shopping malls ! all suggestions welcome . Thanks everyone ! Cat.

Having just returned from Roda which had it first rain this week since May and boy did it rain, La Torre was flooded out just before the arrival of the King of Spain for the Davis Cup matches.

It still seems a strange question given the summer the Costa Calida has had, but indeed it can rain sometimes quite hard and often for a few days.

First question to ask, is what does one do if it rains in the UK?

Suggestions of things to do in Spain would then be very similar

Buy a DVD player, take good books and games, if you have a car and the roads are not flooded do some sightseeing, it will normally dry up eventually and Cartagena and Murcia as well as much of the surrounding countryside and coasts are great places to visit.

In Los Alcazares there is an indoor community centre and pool, nearby are a number of Spas, Hotel Costa Narejos, Punta Calera, Hotel Thalassia at San Pedro.

Personally at home if it rains I read or watch the telly, is there anything different elsewhere?

However it should also be noted that a lot of the rain we experience here is very "localised" so places further afield, such as Cartagena and Murcia will probably not be affected.

As H_M also mentioned it rained heavily this week, which is not unusual for our micro climate here.

When this type of rain does occur, the very last thing you will be thinking about is venturing out of the house. We don't have the usual road drainage systems that are necessary in the UK, so any form of driving is dangerous to say the least and only advisable if absolutely necessary.

That being said, there are alternative activities to participate in assuming you can get there.

The cinema in Las Velas shopping centre (on the way to San Javier airport) has started to show films in English.

The Polideportivo (sports centre) in Los Alcazares has indoor facilities, as well as the brand new leisure centre in Los Narejos, on the way down to the beach just past Varazul.

In the winter months of Dec and Jan there is an ice scating rink in Cartagena.
