the NIE NUMBER is essentail for everyone living in spain . it is very simple to get quick and painless if you go to your required office to get it it just means gettting up very early in the morning to join the queue
RESIDENCIA we understand this is being scrapped this year
PADRON we were told this is also a nessessity if you want to buy anything in spain .well we havnt got ours .. yet we bought a car two weeks after arriving and registered with the health centre and we also got a private doctor which costs us 480 euros per year for the two of us not bad eh!!!

Hi All,
Now the NIE application rules have changed, would anybody know the National Police station address nearest to San Cayetano, From what I have read this is where we will have to apply if done in Spain. If anyone knows help would be appreciated. Have looked for address on net but no luck.
Thanks
Pat and Jim

Hi Pat and jim
We went with our solicitor to a funny looking building in El Carmen, Murcia City. It was just off the slip road. The building is round and our solicitor refered to it a "futuristic".When you come off the main road into Murcia ( the motorway) take the slip road for El Carmen, then take a right so that you get to the next roundabout - the building is straight in front of you ( kind of under the motorway)
Hope that helps
Karen

Hi Pat & Jim
We also went to Murcia city like Karen.
Have you bought your property through an agent? as our agents Medsea took us & got us fast tracked so it only took half an hour maximum. Tim who took us said that it is much faster at Murcia & you don't have to go quite as early as some of the other police stations that they use.
Tim then picked up the numbers 2 weeks later & forwarded them to us & our solicitor.
Good Luck

Thanks everyone,
From what I can gather, we would have to wait at least a couple of weeks after applying, for the actual numbers to come through.
He indoors reckons we can get it when we go (our agent will take us) to sign the contract, hope he is right!!!!! or no San Cayetano for us yet.
Thanks again
Pat

Pat,
Make sure you go with your agent or your solicitor - as the queues are really horrendous, we walked straight in - signed the papers and walked out again. I've heard that some people queue all day, then get told to come back the next day etc. It could be quite intimidating if you are not with someone who is fluent in Spanish.
Good luck
Karen

Hi Pat
Our lawyer took us to Cartagena police station on a Thursday morning and it only took 10 minutes at the most, but were told it takes much longer if you go on your own. We were also told by our lawyer that in January this year the Spanish law changed, before the change you could complete on a property with an application been made for NIE numbers, but now you have to have the original to show the notary and these take a minimum of 20 days from application. We were'nt told either, but fortunatley found out and were able to apply whilst we were out in Spain in February.
Good Luck
Paul and Chris

Thanks everyone for your help,
We will hopefully be able to get a number to complete(with our agent or solicitor) when we go to sign contract, if not who knows,
Jim says "If they want our money, they'll get us an NIE number" How nice to be so laid back!!!!
Best wishes to all those going over this week
Pat
