Non PW Wifi Internet

Hi

I have been looking for Wifi internet. I have found a local company that are planning to install a new transmitter so we can receive their wireless internet at PW.

At the moment the package is as follows

Internet Package from 19.99 euros a month

Speeds up to 4 MB and above

No landline required

No contract

Only pay for the months you require

Installed for only 99 euros

Basically a cheaper internet service than the one offered by PW

Pay as you go sort of, as you only pay for when you want it connected. Why pay for the interenet when you are not here.

There may also be a wireless telephone service  ?

If enough people are interested (i.e. it's cost effective for the company to install the new transmitter, then it may happen sooner)

+34 968030378   is the Polaris Telecom number  you will need credit card and NIe/passport  when you call. Installation Tuesday/Thursday. WIFI Modem option as well.

Just bought citrus red PAYG dongle as well so will let you know how it works  79 euros  incl 10 e credit  auto top up when it gets to 5 euros Best on vodaphone . So J1 to J10 may be better , will try next week.

This is an update on the internet and phone services. Compusurf is getting itself established on Camposol. They then have to cover a Spanish village next but intend to be on Condado by Christmas. Connection for phone only is 139 Euros, Internet only 99 Euros and combined 149 Euros. Monthly charges are 19.99 per month for the phone only, 19.99 for !Mb SDSL (Equivalent to 3Mb ADSL) That's 1Mb dedicated, not shared. 2Mb for 39.99 and 4 Mb for 49.99 with speeds available up to 10Mb and over. There may also be a free TV service but this is only being tested at this time.

All prices exclude IVA. Compusurf based on Camposol will soon be errecting the mast needed for PW. I will begin selling the service as soon as it's available.

Thinking about getting this system purely for the 4mb. Quicky about the above, understand that these are dedicated lines as such but how is 1mb superior to 3mb? When I was on 1mb i was getting a between 107 and 113KBps, on 3mb I was getting about 298KBps. How is their 1mb faster than 298KBps? Even if it was done via fibre optic I didnt think it could exceed the 1mb limit....technology does change fast so maybe I missing something.

What I am going for is 4mb connection so would this be equivalent to a 12mb connection?

You can get 4Mb SDSL, it's either 39.99Euros per month internet only or 49.99 for phone and internet. The main dufference with ADSL and SDSL is the upload speed. The figures you gave are roughly correct. The PW set up is quite an old looking dish on a portacabin, the thing goes down frequently because there isn't a water tight connection for the cables. The one dish will serve all of Condado so will have a high contention rate. The Compusurf system gives each client 1Mb upload and download unshared, so is faster. As I said, it won't make much difference on download speeds, but will on uploading.

Yesterday I started selling the system on the towns up on the mountains our side of Condado, so it's creeping down our way. Our technical team will be looking at PW to work out the best way of delivering the system without causing problems with all PW's ridiculous regulations, which I will also be contending as they've brought them in too late.
