I am sure you will find that a much cheaper option than using the air con to heat.I am just wondering how the cost compares to a gas heater. Please keep us informed of your running costs .It will be interesting to see well done.

Electric Heater : Pay for 1KW get 1KW of Heat Out.
Heat Pump Airconditioner : Pay for 1KW get at least 2.5 to 3KW out (thats at UK winter conditions probably better than that at most times in Spain).
Access any of the Airconditioning Heat Pump manufacturers WEB Sites and look for the COP (Coefficient of Performance), in laymans terms power in to heat out.
Running cost wise, no contest.

I understand the comparison with air conditioning but if you can't afford it the panels are a great alternative, considering the cost and the amount of times through the year that they will be used it made sense to me

userpolaris,
I agree on initial cost, wrongly assumed you already had AC Heat Pumps fitted. By the way gas is at best 99% ish efficient so a heat pump is even more cost effective on running costs.

Do these slim panels really heat the apartment or do you need a fan heater to supplement if the temperature falls below a certain temperature. The apartments are desgned for summer living ( I know they are sold as residential but PW only use the minimum required insulation as stated in EU regs-as far as I'm aware) know Murcia can get properly chilly at certain times and they do get some frost occasionally. I wouldnt want to purchase and find I'd made a mistake.
Can they go in a bathroom?

We took up Polaris on their heaters / aircon offer.
Heaters work well and do heat the place up. A heated towel rail is fixed in the bathroom, rather than a heater. It, too, is efficient and keeps the towels toasty!

I know about the Polaris wall radiators and aircon- my ex father in law has gone wth that offer and I think a sister in law too- I know my father in law wouldnt consider an apartment in Spain without heating- he's lived there for over 20 years and will have weighed up all the pro's and cons before making that purchase. But this thread is about the slim panel heaters as an alternative- I'm just querying whether they actually do the job efficiently as I would consider suggesting them as an alternative. I 'm just unsure about the amount of heat they throw out- my use of my apartment will always be off peak now so it'd be me who's generally more likely to need heat. Plus if we rent out we dont want complaints that our renters are chilly

I've been out voted on this suggestion- what you get being out of favour I think. However I would have considerd these for the bathroom if no where else as they are also space saving. Got a version in a static caravan for a bedrooms and hallway and they do okay in autumn but we need a fan heater winter time in the UK- and thats the difference I imagine.

We've lived out here for a couple of years now and have visited in the cold times over the last 7 years and I have to say I wouldn't do it without "proper" heating. We had panels in our conservatory back in England and always had to supplement them with an oil filled electric radiator, even leaving hte panels on all day. We are going for wall mounted electric radiators in our PW apartment like the ones they had in the PW showhouse. They are obviously more expensive than the panels but you get what you pay for. Ian from Calida Gas & Oil is fitting ours. If you want his contact details send me a message.
We've tried using the aircon in the past and apart from being expensive to run I found it created draughts and a dry heat that gets on your chest, similar to a fan-heater

Hi Anne-Maire- you are at one with my in laws, I think. My ex father inlaw just said 'dont be daft, do you want to have the oven on to keep the place warm?'. He has renovated any number of Spanish, Portuguese and Bulgarian properties and always rips everything up and puts in under floor heating and radiators- he says people under estimate the chill factor in Spain. He met with one of the earlier purchasers on CdA and said that his wife said how cold the new Spanish houses where- these people were permanent resients renting at La Torre at the time, so I'm out voted. However, I think it depends on when you plan to use the properties and if you have something to supplement on brief particularly cold times -which are few. I agree about the aircon - no good for asthmatics and people who have propensity to chest infections and I find blown air insufficient as it causes draughts and overall proves expensive. But, each to their own we cant all like the same thing. I must admit that I have strolled around various Spanish towns in spring, autumn and winter in a light jacket only to see the Spanish togged out in scarfs and quilted anoraks!
Original Spanish properties had proper fire places and thick walls- there was a reason for that, summer and winter. However, I think there is still a place for these panel heaters and they will be sufficient in cooler times if not properly chilly times and small rooms - not everyone will use the apartments Oct-March.
I'm just hoping my off season use will be in mellow temperatures!

I have these heating panels in my apartment and they definitely do work. Maybe not heating the apartment to sit in only wearing your sexy Y Fronts but certainly they take the cold out and reasonably warm the place. For the amount of time its cold in Spain and the difference in costs for air con, I say they are a good alternative.

Can anyone recommend a local supplier and installer so that I can get an idea on price for electric radiators for the whole apartment as one option and just the bathroom as a second credit crunch option???

The people to contact for the heaters are Dave and Ben 677400167 or 689052169
They do a good job, neat and tidy and the panels do what they say on the box
