Electricity & Gas payments

Hello.

           I have not been able to view eye On Spain for quite some time due to being out of the country etc. So these questions may have been answered previously, so in which case I apologise.  

           I pay my Electric & water bills by direct debit,  some months the electric company deduct an amount of money for that month, other times they do not deduct any money from my account for  several months, and then take out several  payments at once,  is this just happening to me or is it common to other direct debit users ?.

          The water charge is also taken out by the same method,  except that this deduction is quarterly.  Is there a standard charge for the water & Electricity which is charged regardless of usage ?.

The electric bills used to be every 2 months, now they are monthly. I believe they only take a reading every 2 months and estimate the other, someone correct me if I am wrong. The water as you say is quarterly. No idea why they would take nothing for months then 3 or 4 together.

 If you just look up your contract number you can log in online with the water and the electricity company. You can see exactly what you pay for and when the last reading was etc. Much more convenient than bills which most of you don´t get anyway because you don´t have a postal address in Spain. (for that rare person who didn´t know this already: there no postal service in Don Juan although there will be in the future.

It also shows your usage over time per month etc so you see what it is really costing you to use the the electric heaters instead of other solutions or turning on the aircon in August with the doors wide open.

And Westport is right. Every other month the electricity is read of your meter, the other month is an estimate.
