Well the golf shop has been emptied just left the girls and the tills. It was all polaris merchandise so they have reclaimed it.
No definite news but staff think Olagolf will restock and put in a temporary clubhouse near the 1st tee.
i think it may take some time to put a coffee shop/bar in the ground floor penthouses (block 7) because they will have to apply to the town hall for change of use for the premises, and some local residents may object slowing the process down even further.
For information green fees are 30E all day with buggies at 12E because of the condition of the greens after hollow tining. Busy day tomorrow for the golf society with 32 players.
Also work has commenced on 2 units in the corner next to the supermarket. The walls and ceilings have been plasterboarded and the workmen are busy. Don't know what is going in there.
I am still confused about who owns the Al Kasar. The community website says it is polaris but other info from staff says it is the banks.

Barry,
The community statutes Article 9 state ;-
2. Whatsoever mercantile, professional or commercial activity carried out in the buildings developed for residential use is also prohibited.
Whilst I, on a personel level, would have no objections to facilities being opened there, I'm sure the owners in the penthouses might. Would you be happy if they opend it in the apartment next to you? But the main point is the fact that it is against the statutes and these can only be change by a vote of owners.
Initially we were told that Al Kasar had been handed to the banks, well infact it said "el forum" which we took to be "El Foro" the old name for Al Kasar, so something could of been lost in translation. The following week in a meeting with Polaris World that stated that they still owned Al Kasar, so that is the situation as we know it today.

Hi
It’s not the short term change of use that would be a problem, it would be that others would use the argument that if they can we can also, and make similar application. We may then end up with little business setting up all over the resort with tacky business boards stuck on buildings. Now wouldn’t that look good, so I say we should say no change of use should be approved.

I agree PGM......in additon .....the more "Temporary" facilities we accept, the longer it will before something more permanent is built......which is what we are really need isn't it

These' temporary premises' are simply not acceptable, the banks or whoever is in charge need to build the clubhouse and finish the development as that set out in the original plans and the one we all bought into. Without our clubhouse et al. I fear that Condado could become a second class resort.
I totally agree with PGM and Nick, these temporary structures tend to become very permanent and we should oppose them. I think it might be time for the residents/owners to stand up and make their voices heard.

I have resisted the temptation to reply to this thread since it was first muted, - UNTIL NOW. As someone who has an apartment in block 7, I would oppose any such move on the part of any commercial enterprise to be opened in any apartments on Condado.
As Ptan has stated, it is against the community statutes to carry out any commercial enterprise. It is also forbidden to change the asthetics of any of the apartment buildings, which in my opinion, would have to be done to facilitate this ludicrous proposal.
I couldn't imagine the patio doors and small terrace being sufficient for people to congregate and chill on a daily basis.
Olga golf would also have to purchase the apartments from the bank, they would have to alter all the internal walls and fit out for purpose.
I would think that they could purchase a log type cabin and site on their own land which is the area of the proposed " 5 star club house" and this would be more cost effective for them.
If we as a community allow changes to apartments and change of use of these apartments we will have fish and chip shops, burger bars, hot dog stalls springing up all over the resort.
This is not "the dream" that I had.
Regards
Mike

I have some email correspondence with someone who used to sell PW properties and who has 'bumped' into one of their old PW contacts (no longer in their employ- as of only a couple of weeks ago) so I asked about her if she'd heard any of this about the penthouses idea- as I find it hard to visualise. As the Banks own many of the penthouse apartments and also the golfcourse there would not have to be a 'purchase'. Olagolf have been 'employed' by the Banks to manage the golf course rather than have bought it. But this conversion suggestion is apparently one of many rumours.
The PW contact had even heard the rumour that terrace area in front of two or three groundfloor apartments would be extended and screened and the interiors altered!!. However my friend felt it was all very much rumour which is growing with each telling and the likelihood of a temporary structure is more probable.
So its clear the rumour mill is turning .
8/5/10:- CdA services blog has more up to date into on this

There is talk of a wooden structure for the clubhouse near the 1st tee.
On the RM3 going to the port just past Camposol there are several wooden chalets for sale which would do very nicely.
Then when they are finished with it they could sell it on.

Yes, this temporary building makes much more sense. Information gets passed around like chinese whispers and grows which is what my friend was saying and its all merely speculation until something concrete or 'wooden' happens.

Latest information is that work on temporary wooden clubhouse will start early June and completed September to November.
Will be overlooking lake and funding has been agreed by Olagolf.
All the area around will be brought up to scatch and will have a tarmac parking lot.

Don't want to sound negative but I think 'Starters office' might be a better description. Any progress is great news to me but hopefully this will be a short term measure until the full blown Clubhouse gets built.

Hi Barry,
Good news this........by the way, where did you get the information from...Ola Golf staff ? It really will make a big differance to the complex. Just be able to sit and have a pint by the lake, a shower if you want one, pay your fees by the tee etc etc. It is how most clubs in Spain start out at first. I remember the courses at Campomar & Roda both started with Temp clubhouses, the one at Roda being excellent. Both now have superb Clubhouses in place. What it will do is also ensure the surrounding arears adjacent to the clubhouse get tided up. For those of us living in close proximity, that can only be good news. I guess it should mean the end of the Generator too.......although like Herbert from "The Surgery" it may be sadly missed!! Compared to the Floppsies, he was lightening.....albeit not as asthetically pleasing on the eye
Hope to catch-up with you in 2 weeks. Coming out for the AGM week-end, hope to get a couple of games in.
Nick

Skell2, I dont know if all of your post was 'tongue in cheek' but for a wooden structure to provide a bar, shower and changing facilities, we may be disappointed.
I dont know how many owners there are on CDA but I for one wouldnt mind making a one off contribution of say 50 or 100€ to ensure we got a permanent or semi permanent structure to provide all of these facilities which would increase the potential of the course and the resort and be available for all to share, have a drink bite to eat etc.
If we could have input into the design and who will manage and provide what service (even a function room/community room) I amsure it would be better than what is originally to be provided.
Just a thought (and no i am not a lottery winner, i am currently unemployed but I am l;ooking past the current times to the future)

Hi Paul.......no not tongue in cheek. I am not sure if you have seen some of the "Temp clubhouses" that are in use all over Spain. As I mentioned the ones at Roda and actually at El Valle we first class and provided all the things you need........Bar, kitchen, showers, changing rooms, decking area by the lakes etc etc. They are basically timber cladded portakabins, but when the surrouinding areas are landscaped they are more than adequate until the permanent one gets erected. At first I was against such an idea.....but we have to pragmatic. We are not going to get a permanent clubhouse for a long time - who is going to put up the €2m or needed for that..? Ola golf no chance, the banks...never.....I think a good quality temp clubhouse is what we should push for.
I think your idea to be involved in what is being suggested is a really good one & I am sure it can be achieved. Not sure what you mean by "what is originally to be provided"........have you seen some plans...?
Regards
Nick

Anything which will enhance the resort has got to be good golf related or not.
I just want the best available
