Hi Pete & Mave
I have herd of the term Black Money but was not approached to do anything like this at the Notary.
When we went to the bank the day before to sort out what we owed we actually got a bit of a surprise. We had it in writing that we owed 90,000.00 euros on our balance and that was to be the amount we had requested for a mortgage, to our surprise we were informed that we only owed 89,500.00 euros! Who were we to argue?
That was the amount on the cheque that was handed over at the Notary, so as far as I am aware there was no funny business went on, if you no what I mean.
We did ask the bank what was the valuation of the house and was told that it didn’t matter for mortgage purposes as the valuation exceeded the amount we wanted to borrow anyway. They also said that for mortgage purposes the banks always under valued the properties; don’t ask me why because I haven’t a clue, they did say the value for mortgage purpose was for 155,000.00 euros, which is 10k - euros more than we paid for it so we are happy.
Hope this has helped
