We are thinking of buying an apartment in this development. We know the area a little as we already have a property about 2 hours away.
Would be grateful for responses to the following questions:
1. Are there any bars/shops/restaurants within walking distance. We realise you can't walk to and fro to the marina very easily because of the hill but are there facilities nearer?
2. We don't know anyone in the area - how easy is it to make friends?
3. We understand how communities work - are there any problems with the community?
4. What is the pool season?

Hi

There isn't much at the top of the hill.  Toward the bottom of the hill there is a small courtyard with bars, food places and hairdressers etc.  If you are fairly mobile then it isn't too bad a walk down to the port.  Brisk walking, it would take you 20 minutes to the port and it's 8 euros back to the urbanisation in a taxi.

It is easy to make friends if effort is made. If you go to the main pool in the summer you will get to know a lot of the residents and it has a nice community feel to it.  If you like visiting bars, making friends is even easier.

The urbanisation is not without it's problems, but that is the same of any large urb.  Only 3 years ago we had to fight for things to be done but that was mainly because the developer still owned the majority and what they said happened.  The tide is slowly changing as more apartments are being owned privately and awareness is made of the importance of current owners to make sure they either attend the meetings or pass their proxy on to another owner.  The banks are selling at huge discounts and because more apts are being sold we are having more say over how the community is run.  I run a facebook site for owners where we can chat in private and get to know each other better.  This site and the facebook site has allowed us to become more organised and also to voice opinions to the executive committee so that we can make DV a nicer place to live.

The big pool is open from May to October but all the pools are kept in a good condition even through the winter.

I have owned my apartment for 6 years and lived here full time for the last 3 years.  I really like living in DV and for the most part it is a quiet place, away from the hustle and bustle of the port. Obviously it gets busier in the summer but it has never been unbearable in my opinion. (And I live right in front of the big pool!)

That's really helpful information thank you. One other query - do you have any feel for how much of DV is still left to be sold ?
