Hi Jay,

We did put on the other thres on Al Kasars that the laundrette was predominantly for the key holders although we would also cater for the home owners too if required.

In the high season there is a lot for the key holders to do and afew of them already use laundrettes off site so we wanted to bring their custom and presence to Condado. We obtained prices and canvessed several businesses and got a good level of buy in before we even thought of going ahead with this idea. Many key holders on Condado were really keen for us to set up this business and thought it was an excellent idea. It was going to be alot more than just a laundrette, we had 2 more business ideas we were going to put in the unit. We researched these ideas and presented them to the banks and at the time they felt there excellent ideas and would bring people to Al Kasars

Now due to pressure from the other businesses this has now been stopped

Apologies to everyone for the supposed negativity that people think we are generating we are not trying to run Condado down, we want it to thrive and succeed as this will be good for all of the residents and businesses alike

We just think some of you need to look deeper and appreciate what is really going on with the banks and some of the businesses and how they are controlling what is going on in our complex, they seem to be scared of healthy competition which will prevent Al Kasars moving forward if they are allowed to continue.

All we want is the truth about what the banks and businesses are doing with our complex - our business has been stopped as we arent allowed to open any sort of eating/drinking place (even though there isnt one of what we wanted to do). The banks also decided to take away our outside terrace space as they stipulated another business would leave if they didnt get our space. We have approached this business in question and they have denied saying this - as we have already said ALL WE WANT IS THE TRUTH

We may have to take further steps(lawyers and the papers) if we cannot get to the truth which may not be good for Al Kasars, hopefully someone will grow a set and tell us the truth

We just want to know the real resons we have been stopped

I am here now but not yet ventured out. Competition is good. It keeps the standards up and offers residents/holidaymakers choice. The choice at the moment is very limited and I for one am really cross that the existing businesses arenstoping people from coming in and opening new units. We spend more money off Condado than we do on Condado as we have had very very mediocre meals in the 2 restaurants on site. We have had a couple of lovely meals in Al Kasar but much nicer dinners in other locations and the Indian restaurant in campasol delivers to our patio very frequently!

We have our own washing machine which i use while we are here but our end of stay/arrival laundry is done outside so a laundry on site would be an excellent idea. ATM also fab.

I would love a traditional bakers - this could free up some space in the supermarket and they could have a deli - I hate prep packed meat so always go to campasol for fresh meat/ deli items. Bring on a butcher/baker/deli if the restaurants are being awkward. I don't know anyone who does all their shopping on Condado it's basic arrival food. A great Italian is needed - superb pasta and pizzas and a facility to call and have fresh pizza delivered - if I had the time and the money that's what I would do you can't beat a freshly baked pizza with fresh ingredients. We've come from a country where places have 42 restaurants all in competition - what happens is you get amazing quality meals and great offers to get you there and keep you there - competition is good for us the consumer - if there is back biting I think that's very sad because the restaurants we have are very very mediocre and I believe that some more completion would get them to be the great restaurants they have the potential to be.

For those wanting to invest and run a business here I salute you and I would absolutely support you with my custom.

Off to Al Kasar tonight - not very excited about it but hope my lethargy can be changed and we end up having a superb meal and fabulous service. If or one just wish there was a better selection bit we do always support the ones who are here and love our coked breakfasts in the Condado club!

Hi Leigh

I have to first say that I respect and am impressed that you went to the bother of answering each and every one of the comments in your thread as this in itself says a lot. Second, I must stress that my own comments were in no way directed at you personally but simply my own feelings after coming back to my apartment after another great night out in Al Kasars.

Yes indeed, if honest, of course the resort could do with a couple of additional facilities, some of which were mentioned earlier in this thread. My point was and still is that overall Condado isn't that bad, actually it's very good considering the economic climate here just now. Room for improvement, hasn't everywhere!

Finally I feel I must address your own dilemma because I do believe that if it is as you say, there has been a great miscarriage of justice as far as management is concerned and as a business man this irritates and even upsets me immensely. I do believe you have been given the runaround and treated unfairly and such behaviour is totally unacceptable and that is regardless of the expenses to date you have incurred. Having started various businesses myself I know only too well the pressures, both emotional and financial and frustrations that one goes through to get any company off the ground and regardless of what type of business(es) you were trying to set up I applaud you.
However, what I'm not sure of is if this or any similar public forum is the correct way to vent such frustrations as all of your hard efforts could accidently run wild, turn into a nasty slanging match by accident and come back and 'bite you in the bum' if you pardon the saying. Most definitely you need to talk to your solicitor and if honest, I would try my hardest to engage in finding myself someone (a friend) within, be it Millenium, the bank or even IRM as it seems there may be a few decisions made ever slightly outside of the way they should be. Most times in business unfortunately it's who you know and not what you know sometimes.

Leigh, I do wish I was in the position to offer you some more assistance but alas my business is in London, which is as cut-throat as anywhere else. I do of course wish you the very best of luck in your venture(s) here in Condado and honestly do hope that something works out for you.

Anyway, enough said and I'm off to The Clover now. Maybe one day soon we can catch up here over a beer, maybe in your new establishment.
Sláinte
Gabe

The first post about  the situation was put on here on March 13th - we have emails from one of the businesses stating what the banks have told us to be untrue, the banks wont give us honest answers.

Dont you think the silence from the said business says alot about whats going on - theres been 6000 + views on this and the other thread so we would have thought the businesses have seen the posts but also dont want to give the answers

 Hi,

I am opening the 'American Diner' very soon on Condado and can understand Leighs frustration. It takes a lot of time, money, commitment and sleepless nights to get a business up and running in any circumstances, never mind in a foreign country with some people making it more difficult than need be!!

I personally love it on Condado , this is the whole reason for being here and wanting to change our lives as well as given everyone else on Condado more choice. Surely if you are willing to put in the hard work and willing to add more choice for the holiday maker and residents alike then its all good!

This is why we would never reject any other business wanting to set up in Al Kasar, the more the merrier, i say!!  (Not that we have ever been asked by anyone)

regards

Yvonne.

Hi Yvonne,

Yes you can only understand if you have been through it yourselves as indeed you have

We wish you good luck and we will definitely support you - it will be good to have another place to choose from, when are you opening ?

Youre the third business to say there was no such meeting thanks for the honesty, we intend to ask all the businesses - from we  have learnt so far it is just the one business who didnt want us to open

We look forward to dining with you

We had a lovely meal at la catal last night! Super service too!

Yvonne when are you opening we can't wait to come in and support you.

This back biting by existing businesses has to stop and people be allowed to run businesses at la Kasar.

Good luck to all looking to make this place a great place to be for everyone.

We dont know what to do next

Does anybody have any ideas on how we can move forward with a business over there ?

The banks arent interested they stand by what they said despite us knowing our outside terrace space is not required and the fact there wasnt a meeting with the food/drinking businesses - although one of the businesses has told the banks they dont want us to open

We dont want to give Al Kasars bad PR by going to the papers or solicitors but neither do we think it fair that this business should be allowed to get away with controlling the the banks and stopping other businesses from opening - with these people in business Al Kasars will never go forward, they will tread on, & stamp allover anybody to prevent them opening a business if they feel threatened

Which unit were you looking at renting on Al Kasar?

That may give you the indicator you need to identify the business that you say objected!

Would renting another unit make a difference?

It looks like the outside terrace space is a factor in your current desired location as you mention in your previous post hence the move to a new unit suggestion..Just a thought.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Hi, we are normally not getting into details about our clients so we will not on this forum, just for the sake of transparancy and truth we have offered them another unit which allows all kind of the activities planned, nice terrace size with all licenses in place. No idea why this offer was not taken up, sure if you want to start a business on Al Kasar or whereever you will need some kind of funding. To base a business on renting out terrace to your neighbour is not really convincing, especially when the neighbour's business is already established. We have several units on Al Kasar available. Kind regards, Rupert - Estate agent on Al Kasar

Thank you Rupert for that info!

Maybe Leigh Bristol can answer that point?

I hope you can see Rupert that we as owners are really keen for people to be allowed to open up units - I'm sure you'd love al Kasar o be full too!

I've heard not just from on here but from other sources that there is terrible back biting from some of the businesses here - how sad.

I was reading an interesting article yesterday where paramount will probably withdraw their licences for their theme park. I read that Condado de alhama was considered but the greedy banks wanted too much money so all this greed will leave us with no theme park and an international airport that has still not opened. This place has the potential to be buzzing - sad that people are stopping others fom opening a business here.

Leigh - I hope you can take the other unit and realise your dream here.

Think there may be more to this story than meets the eye!!

Not too sure if all the facts are coming out regards this new business venture by Leigh Bristol here but will be the 1st to hold hands up and apologise if I am wrong on this.

Any further on what Rupert touched upon on different unit?

Forgive me if I am wrong but it looks like Leigh Bristol wantedto rent out his outside space to another established business thus considerably reducing his outlay on rent!

There are always 2 sides to every story! Lets hope everyone can get on and give us, the owners a superb resort with lots of choice.

Hi Chaddyowl,

We were going to have the old Golf Pro Shop, sorry we cant give you all the details, the trouble is we have experienced it where people pinch your ideas and do it instead, so we dont want that to happen, hence not giving out all the details

With regards to the terrace we were going to use it in the day and the established business was going to use it at night, the rent for the golf shop is quite expensive as its already kitted out. We have already sorted this out with the business so there is no problem ( We have it in writing they do not want to use our terrace as 2 more eating places are opening so they dont anticipate needing it )

The 2 big facts are no more food places are to be allowed to open up, a so called meeting with all the eating/drinking businesses did not happen, we have this in writing from a couple of these businesses

The established business was said to have threatened to leave Condado if he didnt get his neighbours outside terrace. We have this in writing that he said no such thing, and didnt know anything about it ! He took out a 5 year contract so wouldnt be able to leave anyway. So what we want to know is truthfully why have we been stopped ?

The bank and estate agents in Al Kasars were the ones who knew what we wanted to open, but the businesses knew as they raised concerns it would affect their business. How did they find out what we wanted to do ? It must be the gossip train again !
