We have been very happy with the services of Currencies Direct - https://www.currenciesdirect.com/. You open an individual account and agree on a rate. They then fax you a transfer form. You will need the details of both your own and the receiving account in Spain. The whole thing takes only a few moments and is commission free.

Remember, when the euro/pound rate is high, you can buy ahead and place sums on deposit in an account in Spain.

If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards

Susan & Glyn (Manzana 5)

Hi Helen

Just want to confirm what Susan and Glyn have said. We also used Currencies Direct and it was very straight forward. Would recommend them.

Hi Helen

We have used Currencies Direct & Global who have both been excellent, but I guess it may be different for you as we have had to change our currency into euros from sterling & I would imagine your money would already be in euros in Eire so you may not need to use the same exchange companies as we do in the UK.

It may be worth asking the same question on the general forums so that you get an answer from someone in the same position from Eire

Kind Regards Sue & David

Would a person in Eire, a Euro using country, need the services of Currencies Direct?  Just a thought.

The simplest thing is to make a SWIFT transfer from your bank in Eire to your Spanish bank.  Yo9ur bank will know what to do, you will merely need the IBAN and SWIFT codes for the beneficiary bank, which they will provide upon request.

Actually the Halifax make their money by loading the rate against you n transfers between £ and €, so in reality the transfer isn't truly free in the strictest sense of the word.  I know this to be fact, I have used them myself in the past.

yes that sounds about right all though they offered me 1.49.49 a few weeks ago and no one else could do better that was for a transfer to spain.

is that a good rate or do you  get better at currency direct??

I don't use Currences Direct or the like because they also have to go into the market for their money.

The  one UK financial institution I understand to actually share the profits of currency transactions with their customers is the Nationwide (and I have no vested interest to declare in this regard ).

We are opening a Halifax a/c in the Costa Calida area in the summertime in readyness for our move, we have an a/c in the UK and I am intending using this for the transfers of money for property purchase & pension transfers, what do I need to take to Spain to open this a/c as our local Halifax is not sure? Does anyone do similar transactions using Halifax, help please!

Hi Vox,

Suggest you contact 'JeansSis' on the general forum, as Janice is quite a fan of the Halifax in Spain and the UK.

Think you will also find this information under 'Bank Charges' and 'Transfering Money' etc. where she has explained the procedure in detail.

Regards

Dave & Janet

Hi Vox

We have just opened a Halifax Espania account in Spain. All you need is your passport and 300 euros to open the account. No ned to make an appointment just call in. We opened ours at the Los Alcazares branch they were very helpful and spoke very good english too.

                                        Regards
