Word on the street is that this has hit a snag - a 600,000€ funding gap. The contractor has been appointed but may not start if they are not going to be paid.

I understand that work has also started today on the unfinished section of the road beside the station. As these are very positive developements for Don Juan any updates and photographs of progress from those lucky enough to be in Spain at the moment will be appreciated!

This is what was in todays copy of the Euro weekly.
Seafront work to begin at last in Fuengirola
- Thursday, 15 January 2015 18:25
WORK on the fourth and last part of Fuengirola’s seafront promenade in Carvajal has finally started, 10 years late.
Most of the Costa del Sol town’s seafront was renovated at the start of the decade, but the last stretch has remained in a dilapidated state as the central government cut funds and froze the project.
Now it is finally getting a much needed spruce up after cash was made available for the scheme, which was first mooted in 1993.

Hi Pearce
Work started on the paseo Monday, a sign went up stating cost and contractor. A few trees have been cut down and barriers / fencing is stored on the beach ready. They have also cut the main dual carriage way between torrablanca and Carvajal down to one lane so as to provide parking. So one Lane now parking, probably going to cause chaos.
Work has started on the unfinished section of pavement, adjacent to the station, they have cleared all the weeds away to expose what sections of ducting had been completed. Still a big section missing and it looks like the missing ducts for the telephone lines will be installed before the pavement is laid, fingers crossed also some additional parking and lighting will be provided.
The area adjacent to the roundabout by the bridge has had about 12 pine trees planted and turfed, the roundabout is also being worked on, so all looking good.

Hi Geoff
Any idea what the plans are for the paseo. Are they replacing footpath ,widening them etc. Any other changes to be made. Will road on sea front still finish at the small roundabout or are they extending it ?
You said the main road N 340 is down to 1 lane. Is it both sides ? Is it from Gardenia Hotel roundabout or the next one down ? Where does it end, at the 92 ? Are they fitting meters to park there. Wouldn't surprise me. I've always said along the station leading up to DJ should be metered, especially July / Aug and the money raised used to maintain the road / footpaths, and DJ residents exempt from paying with permits. The main road will be a nightmare in the Summer with these dodgy drivers trying to park in tight spaces if there is only one traffic lane. It will be backing up to Marbella :)

Hi Pearce
Not sure of the extent of works but we believe new pavements / road etc between the Calpso bar at Torrablanca and the the small roundabout at the end of Carvajal. Only parking on one side of the road when completed. Some apartment blocks and cafés loosing some of their frontage.
At the moment they have only provided additional parking bays on one side of the N 340 from torrablanca roundabout to the end of Carvajal adjacent to the welcome benalmadena sign opposite the garage. The bays are maked out by bollards at each end, which will probably get flattened and cats eyes in between. Not sure if meters will be fitted as these pakiing bays have only just appeared but wil keep you posted.
There is also a lot of building work going on at higueron at the moment with south beach well under way and several over projects started. That is why the area under the bridge is now being finished and our pavement. perhaps they will now start on the Golf school.

There is steady but not spectacular progress on the Paseo. The road from the corner shop to Los Marinos Jose at the end is closed to vehiches and is well and truly dug up. If what they are doing on this section is what they are going to do on the whole Paseo it is a fairly major refurbishment. At the moment it is hard to tell how it will end up as it all looks fairly chaotic. There is no progress on the rest of the Paseo so I assume they are going to do it one section at a time.
Work is continuing on the section of the road beside the station that wasn't finished. They have put kerbs in so you can see the shape of the additional car parking spaces and footpath behind. There are also lots of manholes and new ducts being put in so hopefully there will be a way for telfonica to bring cables in when they are fininshed.

Nothing to report on the Paseo but the road by the station is almost done. The car parking spaces were concreted at the weekend, the footpath is now all done and the street lights were installed today.

Andy,
The road by the station is finished and looks good. The Paseo is still closed from the corner shop to the roundabout. The pipes and stuff are all done there so I expect the rest will be completed fairly quickly. They have also closed off and are working on the section between the Calypso and just beyond Slammers. Major pipes going in.
Simon of the Carrebean says they are going to finish these sections and leave the rest until after the summer but I don't know if that is fact or wishful thinking. The traffic is bad enough at times all ready so if they don't reopen it for the summer it will be a nightmare. There has been a boat off the coast for the last few days - apparently laying pipes as well!

Had a walk along the Paseo today and have posted a few more photos.
Word on the street is that they are only laying pipes in the section from Calypso to Carrebean at the moment and will reopen the road before San Juan on 23rd June. They will then start work again in September.

It is hard to imigine that they will be able to reopen the Paseo for 24th June - it all looks chaotic at the moment. I posted a few pics of where they are laying a pipe to take the stream beside the carrebean out to sea so that the beach doesn't get washed away
