I thought it worthwhile creating a new thread for this - keeping the Chit Chat thread for other topics. As you will see below from tomorrow vehicle access to DJ will be on a new temporary road over the footpath at the bottom of the hill. Pedestrians have a separate path to the station beside the railway fence. Between the station and the bridge there is not much visible progress - just a new trench with 4 red ducting pipes laid in it.

I've just put 3 new photos in the photos section. The footpath has been moved from beside the railway to beside the temporary road. There is lots of work going on between the station and the bridge but it is not clear to me exactly what they are doing.
The section between the station and DJ seems to be the responsibility of another contractor called Espovega. They have their own storage compound, lock up and diggers. They worked hard and did a good job preparing the temporary road last week....then cleared off. Their diggers are still here and they got a delivery of precast manholes today so I expect they'll come back eventually.

We also left today David, but are returning the 19th of June and I will keep you informed...
We understood of what we saw, they made a bit of a mess of the road between the railwaystation and the tunnel, putting tubes in concrete into the earth, then digged them out again, (digged? it's called jekkeren in Dutch) opened the holes, closed them, opened them again, tubes in, tubes out..... No idea why but now they 've stamped the earth, so let's hope it's fine now. Because they told us it would be finished in August, let's hope so, because the dust is terrible...At least the end is near..........great
Have a good flight home.
Kind regards,
Corrie

Progress continues on the road, but very very slow, they are still only on the first phase from the railway bridge to the station. On a positive note the first curb stones have been laid yesterday and today, this will start to give us a picture of the final lay-out. They were damping the road area this morning, to probably keep the dust down. I'll try for photos at the end of this week if no one else is able to take any.

Things are going well with the kerbing and road configuration at the railway station - nice paving stones going down now but plenty to be done yet, hopefully they will start on the Don Juan half soon.
The back road is still closed at the El Higueron exit although the signs said the 8th was the final day - they are widening the entrance considerably and it appears to me that it could take another week at least to finish.

It looks like they are finally about to start work on the second part of the road. They were still working down there at nine o clock and have redirected the traffic along the far side of the mud track. The paving is going along at a better pace and they have also laid concrete where cars will finally park.
There were wagons working this morning bringing in loads of chippings (stones) and laying it where the road will finally be. The back road is still closed and could be another fortnight.
My Estimated time of all completed works...........mid November

I see that our 'Road' made the Euro weekly newspaper last week, The mayor saying works should be completed by mid July. I still think this is very optomistic, the main thing is they get all the pipes in and complete it properly, as mentioned by David in an earlier post. It is looking better everyday although on passing by earlier they had dug a great hole accross some earlier completed works. The road out the back is still closed, the 2 week completion date is now at 4 weeks and rising.
Martins estimated completion date still stands at mid- November.

Hmm ... Don´t like you estimated dates - but you are probably right
My daughter arrives late Sunday night . Is there any lights at the Boulevard ?
Is the backroad still closed?

Sorry, its just a bit of fun. I have a formula for Spanish projects. For a road, you double the espected time of completion and add 2 months. I hope I'm wrong also, I have washed my car so many times the paint is coming off. The back road is still closed and the date of completion has been crossed out.

I've uploaded a few pictures taken last week. The lower section is coming on well. Work has started on the upper section but it is hard to imagine it will be finished by mid July. You can also see a video clip on youtube (link below)

It looks like they have had a good day on the road works. They have put the next line of curb stones in, so this shows the road layout. My concern is this second part of the road from the station to the bottom of our hill, they havn't really touched this part yet. There are pipes laid there.
We have just had a walk up the back, to see how they are getting on up there, but it is bad news. They have re-dug a lot of the works up again and looks less finished now than 3 weeks ago. It was supposed to take 2 weeks, but now looks like 3 months.
Martin--------I'm still sticking at mid-november.
