We've now got shiney new white lines, pedestrian crossings and an illogical "STOP" sign by the station! I think the contractor doing the section from the bridge to the station will be gone long before mid November.
On the other hand the contractor doing the section from the station to Don Juan hasn't come back from holiday yet and they have another section of parking (on the mountain side of the road) and the footpath on the same side to do so maybe they will prove you right Martin.

Hi Eoin
If I remember right, when I first saw the drawings for Don Juan way back in 2003, there were some small units on the drawings opposite the station. You would have to be brave to open up a business there. It looks like a new road may be built going back up the hill opposite the lifts at the train station. For some strange reason they have put stop signs at that intersection and a small part of new road towards the hill. Will be interesting to see where that leads to, maybe the Golf school, if that ever goes ahead.

Westport, the new golf practise course won´t be where that future road would go. It will lead to the center of the planned development of 1500 apartments between El Higueron and Don Juan.
The project developer has paid about 20 million Euro for his license but as far as I know, the developer went into bankruptcy and the bank now holds the license.
The plans to open a series of shops and restaurants alongside our new boulevard are indeed old. The reasoning was that when Don Juan would be completed including phase III, El Higueron would have doubled its current size as planned and licences and the new development would be built there would be more than 3000 apartments in the Carvajal region behind the railway station.
More than sufficient to warrant some shops and restaurants so these have always been in the development plans.

Well the lower part of the road has now had trees planted and climbing plants along the railway wall so is coming on well!
On the other hand Espovega, the contractor for the section between the station and DJ, have not returned since the holidays. Their JCBs and material to complete the job are still there so I expect they will return sometime. Perhaps Martin has bribed them to stay away for a while so that his November completion prediction turns out to be correct.

Perhaps they are waiting on supplies (says me hopefully)... I thought I spied some extra stacks of new paving stones & kerbing recently in behind where their machinery is parked. Doesn't look like they have enough there yet to finish the job properly seeing as they have to compete with "The Boulevard"......!!

The digger comes and goes, but not working here again yet. I think we've all excepted that we have a road surface and a completed footpath, and the rest gets done when it gets done.

Well 2 weeks on from Martin's post Espovega (the contractor) were on site again today. Moving stuff about but not doing any actual work.
Phases 1 & 2 Presidents agreed to send a joint delegation to the TH to find out what was happening. We haven't been able to get an apointment which suggests to me they have a problem but no resolution as yet.
The other end is maturing well - the plants they have put in growing against the wall appear to be roses!

The requested meeting with the TH finally took place yesterday. They have no money at present to fix the road from the "hotel" to the railway bridge or maintain the back road.
The developer responsible for finishing the section of the road from the station to the bottom of our hill has financial problems but has promised to complete the work in early 2013. There will be no working street lights until this section is completed.
Pre instalation for land lines is now complete. It is up to Telefonica to complete the work.

Recent enquiries to the Town Hall have been met with abuse. Apparently we are very lucky to have got what we've got and should be showing more gratitude.
Based on past experience this is how they behave when they don't have anything positive to say. It means they are able to avoid answering awkward questions like, "What happened to the ring fenced money you said was sufficient to complete the project?"
In fairness it is a lot better than it used to be and we'll keep plugging away but I don't expect it to be completed anytime soon.

It would appear that work will commence on 18 November 2013 on calle Ladera (the road from the main road to the bottom of our hill) and it is expected to last for 3 months. Whilst the deep potholes have been filled with concrete since June this year, it would be good for our cars to have a proper tarmac road from the railway bridge to the main road.
Not sure if the new initiative will include finishing off the works which have been pending since before the summer. It will be wonderful if the entire stretch of road can be fully completed for aesthetic reasons.

It's good news, but I hope this will not last 3 months? In Holland this would take a week??
Just for one small hillstreet?
I really hope they will finish all work, because it's a mess at the side of the street. (wind)
I also see trucks taking material away?
Regards,
Corrie

Irma has checked with the Town Hall and it is only the road up from the brothel to the railway tunnel that is being fixed but it is being completely redone including conduit for telephone wires.
They say the unfinished Boulevard beside the railway is the responsibility of some developer who has not yet developed the land. We plan to keep at them about this and at least get the plastic barriers sorted out in the meantime.
