It's a miracle !!!
Maybe if they had used their brains they would have done the other end first, but then again it is not them that have to drag their suitcases through the rubble ripping them to pieces. Any update on if it is a different company doing the other half of the road. At current speed I estimate it to be finished end of September, start of October taking into account they like to take the whole of August off. Thats nearly 6 months to sort out 300 metres of road. Stevie Wonder could have done it quicker.

Maybe we could have a sweepstake on when it is possible to drive on a proper road out of DJ? If there are only a few we could take a month each but if enough are interested we could do it by the week.
Any takers?

Went down the hill this morning on my way to work, and was waved on to the new road surface, how long have we waited to drive on a tarmacked surface? (BRILIANT) Now then we just need this other half completing, I have to say they are cracking on with it, they have dug a huge line today ready for the pipes.
If the sweep is on I suppose I'd better stick with November as I have mentioned it a few times. I know what these Spanish workers are like.

I have just uploaded a picture my daughter took this afternoon walking down the hill.
I had expected to be able to see more structure of the road. It is still difficult to see exactly where the road is supposed to be, and the tarmac is not even visible on the picture.
But I prefer to be optimistic Of course I will be able to drive away on a tarmaced road the 19th of August- when I am leaving Spain.

I am forever the optimist and say by end of September for a fully tarmaced stretch of road along the front. I have a gut feeling that they may surprise us and do it by end of July which would be great. I am up for 5 euro for completion in Sept though....
Please keep al the pics coming.

In fairness to the Spanish workers they appear to be doing a good job and activity has certainly increased enormously. I counted no less than 6 different diggers at work yesterday and today plus other smaller levelling machines etc. They seem to be shaving a little extra off the "cliff" down near the turn in after the railway bridge and ferrying the rubble in a truck out to the area near the back road. If they keep going at this pace 11 more days could see major progress.....
I will try to take a "panoramic" photo at the weekend.

Wow have you seen them working, I think all the workers have had a 'BET' on a July completion date after all, I didn't know they had it in them. While I'm on I see that the 'Higuron' deveopment has its own 'Tourist train' to carry passengers up and down to the beach. Brilliant can we have one please to carry us up and down to the Bars.

On theTourist Train I hope the couplings between the carriages are good. I wouldn't like to be in the back carriage if it gave way just before it got to the top of their hill!
I don't think we're likely to get one ourselves but let's hope the taxi drivers start charging a reasonable rate when the road is done.
My suggestion of a sweepstake was just a bit of fun - but I'll def buy you a beer Martin, regardless of when it is finished, for keeping us all informed

Just submitted about 25 photos - not sure about quality as I had to resize drastically in order to get successful upload with my wireless connection.
Let me know re quality and I will resubmit bigger images next week when I have access to a fixed line connection!
Hasta pronto

Hi gericomm99
Thank you for your photos - the majority were very good with only two/three having lost their resolution.
I notice that the tarmac does not look very thick - is this just the first layer at the moment? Also the footpath appears to be rather wide and I wonder if it is actually very wide in its physical form?

Thanks for your kind comments. Yes the footpath area coming up from the railway bridge is indeed very wide and it looks like the near side will be equally wide in places. It also looks like another layer of tarmac has yet to go down.
I have never seen so many trenches dug for various pipes and manholes - and of course we know that a very big mains water pipe was laid over a year ago alongside the railway track. I think getting all of these laid and connecting correctly with access manholes all over the place has been responsible for a lot of the delay in visible progress.
Can't wait for the day when I will be able to sit on my case and "steer" it all the way down to the entrance of the train stop...
Will try to upload better images again now.

It appears the local council wants some of the 1.1 Million Euros back for the cost of the 'Road' . As for the last 3 Sundays at around one o clock they have been taking all the cars parked from the Brothel upto the railway bridge.(Gruas and Police) Its not good to see all the owners returning to their cars, only to be faced with an empty road. I think the cost to get your car back is around 200 Euros.
Also there was a peice in the local paper, saying that we are one step closer to the start of the completion of the Promanade. More paper work has been handed to the Goverment and as a result the project can go to tender. Its going to cost 4 Million Euros.
Martin.

Hi Calv
I thought the council did not pay a penny towards the road. As far as I know it was the 4 developers for sector 1 - 4 that put the funds in place years ago. Maybe it is their way of raising revenue to pay to have that last section tarmaced and paved properly. Just out of interest what is the Gruas.

Thanks Gericom. (to everyone else don't be put off by this rather professional photo montage - this is not a competition we just want regular updates.) I am really looking forward to driving on the finished article - the sweeping curve onto cardiac hill will provide us with a fighting chance of getting to the top in 2nd gear.
I am also looking forward to seeing Gericom going down the hill sitting on his suitcase (I assume you will have breaks fitted?)
One of the issues that was discussed when we were trying to get the various parties to agree was the need for a separation of several metres (I think it was 5 but I'm not sure) between the road and the railway to comply with regulations. It seems to me that it is likely that the wide footpaths and parking areas have been designed to provide this separation. (The concern is cars going off the road rather than trains going off the tracks).
With the road open to El Higeron and our own road nearing completion more traffic will use the raod between the brothel and the bridge. It has been a no parking zone for a while. I am pleased they are going to enforce the parking restrictions - and hope they will refurbish this section of road as well.

Hi Neighbours,
Just left Don Juan, The workers are doing a great job at the moment I think.
It seems the second half of the road (our part) will be quicker, already preparing the foothpath and again many tubes into the earth.
Hope they will put them in the earth correctly, so they don't need to dig them out again like the other half of the road!
I really hope they will be finished before the holidays (for at least driving normally, not all, that will be impossible), but I'm afraid they cannot manage that, hate the dust.....
In the sur of last week were a few words about the Paseo Maritimo in Carvajal. The Townhall is a step closer (paperworks Government) finishing the final Fuengirola boulevard, part 4 (Carvajal). Let's hope the economic crisis will do no harm.....because it will cost 4 Million euros.
Kind regards and a lovely summer (here the weather is not good (Holland)
Corrie
