I would be interested to hear from people over the Summer months as to just how much of a problem the mosquitos (and any other bugs) are. We are weighing up protection methods such as window mesh and enclosures but want to spend our money wisely.
What do people think of the patio enclosure that Pat & John at 18b have had fitted? That would seem to offer best protection for outside eating etc. but how does it look? If anyone sees them perhaps they could ask Pat & John whether they are pleased with it.
I hate mosquitos but I hate an empty bank account even more!

Hi Terry,
I am not sure how we stand, I was told by my solicitor that I am not allowed to alter the outside of the building. But I would not want to see anybody suffer.
Regards

When we went out to complete, we were taken to see the enclosures by someone living in HN who sells/fits them etc. They certainly do not look offensive or unpleasant in any way, and I am sure they are effective in keeping out mossies. We decided we did not want them, but may go with the window screens. For those of you who don't know what we mean - think Florida and screened pools. Have to say, mossies active even in May and if they like you, you will get bitten (I was). The problem is, I think I was bitten when I was out and about, rather than sitting around the property, so I am not sure you can win. We go in for the chemical plug ins - which are effective for getting them out of bedrooms etc. Also the air con is good - but turn off the lights or they will keep warm around the bulbs.
A good killing session before you go to bed is also effective!!!!!

Ailsa and I spent 4 nights at our apartment last weekend and only encountered 1 mosquito - and we had all the patio-doors open during the day and the bedroom patio-doors open all night.
Our secret ? A chemical plug-in, citrus candles and the best of all, a sheet of Bounce (fabric softener) either side of the bed - check this site out : http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/bounce.asp
We had a visitation from Moira trying to sell us her Inside Out enclosures - we are not a fan of these so weren't interested but had to suppress a combined laugh and grimace when she said she had got some interest in installing these on a first-floor apartment, possibly covering the whole of the roof area - we rather hope nobody goes for this as, in our opinion, it would detract from the appearance of the development.

Mosquito update!!!!
I forgot to say when I was posting last night - not one single bite. My son and I get bitten wherever we go, so I think this is very significant. We did not use our plug ins - or even the spray ons and we went to the fiesta in the village twice - very late at night, no mossies. We went to a late night flemenco concert in Mojacar pueblo (where we were eaten alive last year), and of course we ate out all over the place. I repeat: NOT A SINGLE BITE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where have they gone?????

Hi,
Just returned from a great week in LO. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the mosquitos are still around. I used repellants and plug-ins at night so thankfully escaped but my neighbour in 16A despite taking all the usual precautions was covered in bites. So just be careful they are still around.
