Hi everyone.
Are we supposed to have working extractor fans in either or both of the bathrooms? We do not seem to have extractor fans in our two bedroom apartment and I was wondering if this is by design or maybe somethings not plugged in somewhere? I know that with the air conditioning on that air gets sucked through in the shower room but I was wondering whether there was a separate extractor fan that works without the air con being on and/or anything at all in the other main bathroom.

Hi Steve
There aren't any extractor fans in the bathrooms. We had one fitted in the main bathroom when we were there in the summer and will get another one fitted in the other bathroom when we're out next time, if not before. We found a marked difference once the fan was installed - it did get very steamed up in the bathroom!
Also, Carolinej on here noticed that their bathroom doors weren't sealed at the top or bottom and that they were warping (think that's the word!). We didn't notice any problem with ours at the time, but just before we left we did notice that on one of the doors the bottom was "expanding" a little!! Think that's something else we'll be dealing with when we're back over!

Hi everyone - re the expanding doors. The one in the main bathroom was very bad and has ben replaced in our absence apparently. It was so bad it was scraping an indentation into the marble! We haven't got extractors yet but probably will do when we're next over.

PS The door was replaced by the builders at no cost to us despite the fault appearing outside of our snag time as Angel from the site team said the door was faulty all along.

Hi
Are these extractor fans very difficult to fit as we could do with fitting one in each of the bathrooms and wondered if we could fit them ourselves? It certainly sounds like a good idea as the rooms do get very steamed up although they seem to clear quickly.

Fans are about 30 euro for ordinary and 40 with a variable delay before it goes off. Not difficult to fit, drill a hole in the ceiling about 9 to 10 cms dia. (I think there is already an exhaust in the ceiling so in this case you fit it where the grill is) depends on fitting instructions are inclosed. Connect across light electricity so fan is on with light. The one with the delay you need live from light plus a live and neutral from somewhere in the void.
You need to check that you exhaust to a real exhaust and not just into the ceiling void as you will have problems with lights and aircon from the most air.
I have fitted one in my Manilva house, bought from the electrical shop in the road in Sabinillas back to back with the promenade near the India restaurant on the east side of Sabinillas. Check other DIY places in Sabillinas this is a common item.

Jeff,
How easy was it (in terms of access) to connect the fan to the lights circuit.
If I recall correctly the ceiling light and the extract vent are about 1.2 meters apart. Are you able to you pull out the light fitting and push to wiring across the top from the vent and then
refit the ceiling light or is there another trick I'm missing?

When you remove the grill and drop the light fitting you should be able to get a piece of stiff wire to go towards the light fitting. Tape the flexible wire to the end of the stiff wire and pull through, wire in parrallel across the light to the fan.
For stiff wire use a coat hanger opened out almost straight but leave a slight curve in to aid you. Rolls of suitable wite thinner than coat hanger are available at the Ferreteria.
