Would anyone recommend filling in their own wealth tax and non residents income tax forms?
My solicitor has told me they charge 200 euros plus VAT for this service, Can anyone advise if it is a simple process or is it advisable to let my solicitor handle it.

we have been sent a letter form our solicitor to appoint them to sort out our wealth tax. I have checked this link but you have to pay for the info does anyone know what to do and if the taxes have to be declared in the uk.
we have not rented as yet and only expect to have a few rentals each year how much is this going to cost us. what happens if we do nothing and dont declare any tax in spain??

I heard that it was being scrapped if the elections last week re appointed Zappatero, which they did, and can remember an article in the Sur in English 2 weeks ago confirming this. Am I right?

We completed today and I have received an e-mail from my solicitors offering to deal with this, for a fee.

We have just paid our wealth tax for 2007 so it is still aplicable as far as I know. We have not been told any different for 2008. We did not have to declare it in england

Our bank in Spain (Caja Murcia) have told us that we have signed a form to state that we will pay our taxes in the UK only. We don't remember filling in any such form but have declared our rentals in the UK. Can anyone confirm that this is sufficient. We don't suddenly want to get a letter from the Spanish Taxman demanding payment.

Wealth tax was abolished in May this year, however, people must still remember to pay the Renta tax, this is the tax that the spanish government assumes you will owe because you rent your property. As taxes are paid in arrears, people will still owe Wealth Tax for 2007, this year. There is a very good thread running on the main EOS forum lots of help etc.
Also worth remembering, IBI (council tax) is due from the date the property is registered by the notary at the town hall, we have just learnt this, and will have to trot along to San Javier Ayuntamiento when we are next there to find out how much we owe, and how we get to start paying it.

My solicitor has just sent me an E mail stating that wealth tax is to be abolished but only if you are resident in Spain. NOTE not for non residents. Hope they are wrong but dont think so.

Afraid I don't know much about the wealth tax stuff but it is my understanding that as a UK resident rental income etc should be declared on UK tax return and UK tax paid on this I assume any Spanish tax paid can be reclaimed on this too as under the double taxation treaty you should not have to pay in both countries.
....just a thought but would you ask a solicitor in UK to do your tax return for you??? I'd suggest it may be better to find an accountant to deal with these and you may well find they're cheaper!

Hi,
Just received my wealth tax quote, are you sitting down, 820 euros. I have a 2 bedroom townhouse on phase 2 and have owned it since july 07. Does seem like an awful lot of money? Anyone else received there quote yet?

I have owned a two bedroom apartment on Phase 1 since January 2007. I recently paid my lawyer 720 euros for 'Personal Income & Wealth Taxes'. His fee came to an additional 348 euros. Both sums seem a bit excessive to me. Now awaiting the IBI tax request!

'Local property tax (Impuesto Sobre Bienes Inmuebles (IBI))
This is the main local property tax affecting owners of properties in Spain payable yearly to the Town Hall. The amount of the tax is calculated by reference to the valor catastral (official value of the property) registered in respect of all properties in Spain. The percentage charged varies from area to area, and is roughly 0.5% to 1%.'
I still have still to pay this tax. I am advised that the IBI tax bill will be posted to me at Roda by San Javier town hall. It will be for year 2007. Alternatively, I can go to the town hall to initiate payment.
