La Renta tax form 210 - How to complete

Where would i find my nie number?   Should i have a certificate or something similar with it on?  I have been asked for this number to obtain property insurance and believe i may need it if i wish to purchase a car in the future.

We had an email from our solicitor of our NIE number. It would have been needed for your completion, so I would suggest that your solicitor should be your first contact.

Thanks for your reply.  Looks like i will have to make a phone call on monday to solicitor now.  Our solicitor done everything for us as they had power of attorney so like you say, she is probably my first contact, i just hate bothering them.

I believe you now need to go to Almeria to get this (you used to be able to get it in Vera).

Your solicitor should have advised really.

If I am not mistaken, Deb has already completed so there should be no need to go to Almeria as the solicitor would have needed the NIE in order to complete.

I think the new rules for applying for your NIE came into effect April/May last year so it is possible that Deb's could have been dealt with entirely under the POA. Therefore, the original certificate is probably with the solicitor.

Yes you should have your nie cert in your posession, its spanish gold at the moment and the original  should be safely stored, ye can't   fart in spain without it. Ooops, used a naughty word

My wife and I applied for NIE numbers in March of 2007, we were told by our property agents (MRI) that we could do it from London, all we had to do was get copies of our passports etc. notarised and get apostillian (excuse  the spelling) stamps from the foreign office in London. So £200 later and a trip into London and standing in the rain, job done.  We had everything sent it off to Spain only for our agents to send everything back and say that the law has changed, we either need to go to Almeria in person to apply or do it through the Spanish consulate in London. My wife and I went into London and handed our application in at the Spanish consulate. ( word of advice, make copies of everything and take them with you. The lady that deals with the application is a tough cookie and does not take cr&p from anybody). That was done on 10 April 2007, we finally go our NIE numbers on 21 January 2008, yep only two weeks ago and that was after many telephone calls , emails, and threats of violence and legal action to our lawyer and property agent. It was done to the wire because Key Mare was threatening us with legal action if we did not complete end of Jan 08.

Sounds like you've been really unlucky. Don't want to make you feel any worse but fortunately we had no issues at all. We had an english speaking local spanish lawyer who was excellent. They made the arrangements and it was all done in one trip. Hopefully it will be plain sailing for you guys from here, but if you do need any advice with anything else, there are many people on this website who are more than willing to help.

We too had our power of attorney notarised and received La Hague Apostille. The P.O.A was sent to our solicitor in Aguilas in order for him to gain our NIE by proxy from Cartagena. We also had to open a bank account in Cartagena to show we had a valid reason/ financial link for wanting to apply for our NIe in this region. The application was taken in September 2007 and collected two weeks later.

It is still possible for a third party to gain NIE for you in Spain, but only in certain areas.
