youtube - advice welcomed

I would like to record my friends’ performance; they’re a musical duo. I think their chances of getting bookings would be much improved if they were to have a youtube video of a piece being played.

I gather that like most things it can be pretty basic; a digital camera and a little know-how. But I would like it to be a little professional without spending too much. Any input would be welcome.

 Mike, it is a lot easier then some people think.

For a band then the most important thing is going to be the sound.  Don't rely on the in-built microphone of your video camera, you really do need a decent external mic.  It will make a big difference.

Then download the video to your PC and use Windows Movie Maker which comes free with Windows to edit your video.

You will then need to render it as an AVI or MOV file (there are others too) and then just upload it to YouTube.

Best to have a play around with some test footage before doing the actual video.

Thanks, Justin. I will have someone more knowledgeable than I to sit in with me. Good news though. The gigsters on Sunday are having a video done, and the chap who is doing it says he will put it on youtube FOC. Really pleased about that.
