ACTIN, making changes for animals in Spain.

Animal care Treatment International Network has been set up to make changes for the animals in Spain, who suffer abandonment and cruelty. What we plan to do is to bring awareness of the problems to the world’s media. We need to promote education, new legislation and support neutering campaigns. It is necessary to get support Internationally to put pressure to bear on the Spanish government and to persuade them to take more responsibility for the lack of animal welfare in Spain. ACTIN plans in the future to bring about these changes through media awareness. Actin will tell the truth of how it is on an everyday basis, particularly in the country villages of Murcia, where there is a lot of ignorance and abuse. They will tell of what the volunteers deal with and how the abuse of animals is getting worse. ACTIN will endeavor to bring about campaigns for sterilization and education in schools. There is a need for a Society to protect the animals and this is what ACTIN aim to do in the future but we need much support to achieve our aims.

Important information just released, which Viv, President of ACTIN-SPAIN has translated into English here:-

The citizen's Initiative Fund 337 grant 2,550 EUR to the Association that denounced the cruelty of the pound in Mazarron, Murcia.

Outraged by the animal abuse cases and inactivity by some authorities in Spain, a group of citizens launched a collection of funds aiming to help these types of cases, to ensure they are punished. The 337 Fund was created in 2011, following the published images of a puppy tortured until his death; this set up in order to provide support to support those that report these cases of cruelty to animals.

In this case, the 2,550 euro fund will be given to the Actin Association, de Asociacion de Defensa Animal, for its complaint of animal abuse against the company Esprineco SL, gestora a privately owned kennel in Mazarron. With legal counsel DeAnimals Office, the complainant accuses this Kennel of causing suffering and death to various animals.

In the month of December 2013, more than 20 dogs from these facilities which had been adopted by the complainant Association died of Parvovirus and injuries and along with their research were given written statements of more than twenty witnesses, (several individuals and four protectoras in the area), all of them are witnesses complainants in criminal proceedings in the denunciation, and also several veterinarians reportedly revealed a bleak picture.

The complaints against Esprineco include that they kept dogs in its facilities in Mazarrón in very cruel conditions: insufficient food, dirt, excrement, parasites and an extreme lack of veterinary assistance against injury or serious ailments.

ACTIN also denounces that terrified cats are introduced in the same cages with dogs, and all of this, while Esprineco receive public Treasury money to cater for these vulnerable animals, the Kennel has been responsible for continued animal abuse," killing of several dogs and cats. Currently Esprineco SL has subscribed contracts for collection and custody of animals abandoned in more than 10 municipalities of Murcia.

Thanks to this complaint, three members of Esprineco have already been charged and called to testify before the judge, for an alleged crime of animal abuse. The company has also been denounced by alleged misappropriation (for the Association animals Alhama), scam and fraud to finance and health.

The 337 Fund representatives expect that this financial support can be used by ACTIN to cover expenses related to the complaint and support efforts to obtain an exemplary sentence. The Fondo warning to councils, such as the one in Mazarrón; they cannot escape its responsibility to animal abuse cases, especially when it comes to the expressly contracted companies to serve the municipality of custody of animals, it’s a public service and inescapable of its obligation and that should be consistent.

Whilst numerous witnesses agree in their statements before the judge that this pound mistreats animals repeatedly, by kicking, and that many of the dogs and cats have injuries and fractures visible, still today, the Mazarrón City Hall and the de Alhama de Murcia have not sanctioned or ceased the contract with the company Esprineco, and the Ayuntamiento of Totana, has renewed the contract of collection of animals with the company even though it has been denounced for cruelty to animals.

Esprineco company sold their services to councils by saying in their contract, quote "we are different to other companies we do not sacrifice healthy animals".

To request the citizens who raised the money, the 337 Fund is administered jointly by animal rights Association releases!, Foundation Altarriba, Justice Animal, GEHVA and Zoological Society de Extremadura.
