Hi all,
i just wanted to move conversation away from the current threads for the moment and get something off my chest....................a rant !
I am amazed (and fed up) of hearing Brit people already out here on the Costa Blanca that say 'I don't like Spain as much as I thought I would - it's far too expensive'. So if you get your house, or your money back and still intend living the 'Spanish Dream', please, please, please sit down and understand what it is you are coming out here for, if it's sunshine, you'll get it by the bucket-load, if you want to be amongst the ex-pat community.............then expect it to be bl**dy expensive. No different to British holiday resorts that put extra on the cost of a pint or a meal because they have the target audience.
i was talking to one guy in the bar the other day and by the time i'd left him, i wanted to slash my wrists....."i pay €2.00 for me daily paper" - why the hell buy one if you're living in Spain, does it matter what is going on at home, I can honestly say I've read a UK paper once since I've been here and that's only because my mate Dave dropped it round so we could use it for litter-training our puppies. then it's.....well food is expensive................duh, yes it will be if all you buy are imported goods down the 'International Aisle' of the supermarkets. Again, is it not the same in the UK if you buy international goods, I think so. "yes, well......a pint here costs as much as in the UK and don't taste half as good". Hmmmmmmmmmm £3.00 a pint in UK, €2.40 a pint here and stop drinking the San Miguel cr*p then, freedom of choice, grab yourself an amstel lol.
"Yeah but.........I like it hot, but not this hot" - 'waiter, grab this guy a frigging Solaro and tell him to shut the hell up - I'm off to the beach for some peace'
Believe it or not - Spanish produce is good, I know....unbelievable, and they have running water and wheels. A lot of what is imported into the UK is grown and produced here in Spain, just have to look across the land and see all the Greenhouses to tell that. For example, someone I know enjoys Coca-cola, even she's now on the local supermarkets home-brand because it tastes just as good as it's International counterpart. We buy 8ltrs of purified water for 85c, not even a Euro, but you still see the ex-pats buying up Evian by the trolley load at €2.00 a bottle. For heaven sake, we all know what EVIAN reads backwards.
So please, if you still want to be a part of this lifestyle, be prepared to make some changes to your life otherwise save your money on all the expensive International products and areas and spend wisely on a return ticket.
I'm off to read the Times and have a pint of Guiness, have a lovely day !!!
regards
Darren
