Just spotted on the Hacienda Riquelme forum Polaris have issued an EMail expressing concern at people using the buggy paths for walks, people jogging on the course and kids playing in the bunkers. Clearly this is a danger to all with golf balls flying around. The upshot is they may have to put up fencing to restrict access to the course. Frontline properties won't be too chuffed.

Hi Jon - I saw that post as well - I have to say I don't think it will be a nice look for any of us, but I won't be surprised if they have to take that action because it's the same mentality a lot of people in this country have regarding golf courses - They seem to think we have the power to make sure our balls won't hit them, once it's left the clubface?

Hi All,

Just read your comments and I just wonder what goes through peoples minds. Do they not realise that if you get hit in the wrong place a golf ball could kill especially a child.  People have no respect and on Condado we certainly do not want fencing around the golf course so I think it could be up to us to educate the uneducated.  I have a six yer old and would never dream of letting her play in a golf bunker. Commonsense dictates that.

Regards
Alison

At La Torre at the moment and we have seen people using the buggy paths for easier access to the clubhouse, but not in great numbers. Its more so in the evenings. It would be a pity to put up fencing here and I agree that the front lines Villa's wouldnt be too pleased as some are only a step off the course from their terraces and fencing would be right at their hedges. It would also mean issuing keys for various gates for the golfers because the course is either side of roadways.

Not sure how it would affect Condado properties as everything seems to be set back from the course, other than it looking less pretty .

I think the main problem is that if golfers say to walkers or people in general that they shouldn't be there, people think it's because the golfers are being snobby and up their own backsides - They just don't see the dangers - I grew up close to a golf course, that had common land on it, my dad was a greenkeeper there, and we were always taught to walk around the outside where possible and when we had to cross over, always look and give way to golfers and watch for where they hit the ball, not because they were superior to us, but because of what I said before, even the best of players have wayward shots, and even the worse amongst us hit the sweet spot occasionally and hit it further than we thought we could - I think it's something that the community will have to put into practice and as you say Alison, educate the uneducated and make sure that anyone renting out makes the rules and the reasons for them clear to their tenants. People generally listen to reason, and they must know that they are renting on a golf complex so rules have to be adhered to.

kids playing in the golf bunkers!if we let this happen at condado then fences will go up.it is up to us as owners to make sure none of our friends family or tennants are so stupid as to let their kids do this.joggers should also be told to keep away from the fairways.

hi all
i am not sure but when we were staying at mar menor there were signs at the golf course next to the start of the path through the course which said "golfers only".
i wouldn't think it a safe place to be walking if not playing golf.

the trouble is there are alot of idiots in this world and by letting their kids wander onto the golf courses will ruin things for everyone.not just the golfers but the redidents if fences are introduced.the adults must take resposibility as kids these days have no respect.

Hi George & All

I have a holiday apartment on a timeshare resort in the USA, all apartments are built on the course with no restrictions of access for anyone, as the golf course is your garden as well. The resort is very similar to Condado, which was one of the things that made us want to buy a property there. However most people adults and children alike do not abuse the course and stay away from the fairways when in use and children don’t play in the bunkers. The staff regularly patrols the course and advise those not following the safety guidance to keep off the course when in use. As far as kids not having respect, I don’t like tarring everyone with the same brush, it’s my experience that if the kids don’t have any respect its because the parents haven’t educated them in this, and in this case I would be more worried about the parents than the kids. Like the other resort I mentioned in the USA, Condado I would think will predominantly attract golfers and their families so hopefully they will understand the etiquette and their children will respect it also. The type of people you have on the resort will also in some part be relevant to the people you rent to.

Phil

thanks phil
i hope the same wil apply to condado
still to be safe i think its in everyones interest to make sure no habitants of our villas misuse the rights of passage on the golf courses then pw wont have a reason to put up fences.hopefully the situation at mar menor was a one off!
