A little while ago a few people were asking for some pictures from Sierra Espuna. I have at last uploaded some taken in July when I was over. It is well worth a visit, fantastic drive - with some heart in the mouth bends, walks, great views and a very nice cafe, picnic area.

In the village of El Berro there is a lovely hotel called La Mariposa (Butterfly), from the 4th Thursday in September to the 2nd Thursday in May they do walking tours - it´s a great way to enjoy the beuatiful Sierra Espuña. The walks are 3 to 4 hours long & are on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of every month.
Directions....
From Alhama de Murcia follow the signs for Mula/Pliego, after aprox 7 km there is a turning on the left for El berro, ignore this turn and stay on the Mula road driving past Hotel la Mariposa in Gebas, after another 4 or 5 KM there is another turn on the Left for El Berro.

One of my main reasons for buying was Condado's location between the beaches and the Sierra Espuna, I've spent time in Sierra Nevada/Alpujarra region in the mountain villages round there and they are what Spain is really about to me.

I went in through Alhama de Murcia - it is only about 15 minutes drive to get to the entrance. We drove up to the top and then came out through Totana - took about 3 hours, but lots of stops - I was with my 12yr old son - who wasn't interested in going for a 10km walk!! - and it was early afternoon in July - so I didn't mind that at all. The link below is a great map of the area.
The Thursday organised walks mentioned sound like a great idea.

What a great site - not only walking but mountain biking and quad biking too - think my Son might suddenly find more interest in visiting the Espuna again than he did when I suggested a nice walk!

Hi Ted thank you for remembering to upload these photo's.
Wow it looks a stunning place!
I must admit I do not know anything at all about this area and reading another thread on the history of the area makes it a very interesting place. Sierra Espuna will certainly be a place I will be visiting next year. Mind you I'm not sure about the bends as I am useless with hieghts! Oh well get my blindfold out again!
Am I correct when I say it is a protected area or is that somewhere else??

Only when I am driving gold buggies 
I know this is going off the thread a little but I have just remembered when I was out earlier in the year and had the "grand tour" around the Condado, I remember being told by the sales guy, as we drove past with where the El Mirando Jardines are going to be built, well on the righthand side - the open piece of land PW had sold to a Nature Reserve which was protected too. It was quite a chunck of land too.
He said it is good because then no building will be close to the Condado?
Has anyone else heard of this? I know i hadn't dreamt it.

I've seen the photos of sierra Espuna it looks fab, and the website mentioned by kathy and bob is excellant.
I think I'll be off on the walking tour, if there's time next week.
There's so much more to see and do in Murcia that I never knew about.

Glad you all liked the website, there´s loads to do here. It´s worth popping into the Travel Agency on Camposol A - that´s the left hand side of Camposol as you´re coming from Alhama. The Travel Agent has loads of info & advise for days out, short breaks, day trips, maps etc.

I thought that as some of you had been talking about the surrounding area of Condado, you may be interested in a website for Murcia - The web address is, www.murciaturistica.es - This website has great information on the whole of the Murcia area - It includes things to do from walking, caving, rafting, nature, history, art and culture, food, food and drink specialities, looking after yourself - If you go into one of the tourist centers see if you can pick up a few copies of, " Region of Murcia, home of the sun" more than 100 enjoyable ideas to see and do - It's a great directory of all the stuff on the website and would be good to leave in your apartment for reference
