I sent an email to Customer Services last week re TV on Condado de Alhama
Below is their reply:
Thank you for your message! Right now, the Telecom Service is not active yet on Condado de Alhama Golf Resort. We are already working on it, but we cannot confirm a date when it will be ready. This means that we do not have any details on how these things will be handled on this Resort. On the other Resorts we offer our DG-Box (Polaris World decoder), which allow our customers to see foreign channels. With a special adapter it is possible to connect a card which people bring from their own country, but again, right now it is unfortunately too early to give any details on how this will be handled on Condado.
We hope to have some more information by the end of the year.
Best regards from sunny Spain,

Hi Folks,
Si made me fall off my chair the other day, he actually suggested that we do not buy a telly for our apartment as we would only be over in Condado for limited periods of time and we would probably be too busy to watch anyway, and that came from a man with square eyes. What do you all think? need one? don't need one? Yes, I do have kids but I am sure they can live without a square box, couldn't tell you when my eldest sat and watched telly last as she has such a busy social life and my youngest only really watches it at weekends eating breakfast, what to do?

Ali, there's been a similar debate in Casa Redcloak to be honest - with me (the greater telly watcher at home) taking the view that a telly could be waste of time/money.
However,
1. as we'll be having family over (and they'll probably want to watch it and moan if there's not one there),
2. we'll be out in the winter months sometimes (and if it's dark outside and we're not off to meet up with our fellow Condadonians in the bars etc., we may succumb to watching it) and
3. we'd need it (at least) to watch DVDs.
So..................I'll probably buy one in the Jan sales when I'm out there and transport it in the roomy Berlingo. Looks like there are some on offer (flat screen 19" sets) for around 190 Euros - so not a huge whole in the wallet.
Tell Si we know that you can take the boy out of Yorkshire, but you can't take Yorkshire out of the boy. Furthermore, we can all see through his feeble ploy to save dosh. Though, who can blame him if, like her indoors, you've recently squandered the pension fund on frivolities like beds, sheet, curtains etc?
lol,
Peter

When we were over in November we bought our TV and although we had no English channels to watch we found ourselves still watching the local TV! Don't speaka lick of Spanish but it kind of felt like home having a TV on. Very sad i know. I can recommend watching the conveyor belt of money on Quatro lol................
Mind you wee did manage to see some English football which was nice

Hi Peter
I heard that rumour was started by a Scotsman to make them appear more generous!!!
Like Ali said, it was me that suggested forgoing the tele although given half the chance I would probably have spent the money on something else. But like you say, having thought about it we'll probably end up with one to watch DVD's etc.
Hope to see you sometime when you're out.
Simon

Kevin - I'm really a very sad person. I have all the prices for the last shopping trip written down in a notebook - how embarrassing. Sounds v organised but was more to do with being confused and fed up after being dragged all round Murcia to look at furniture etc., so I decided to jot it down, lest we forgot what we'd seen and where.
Carrefour had TVs at 189 Euros for a 19" LG and a 20" Bluesky - both seemed good enough for what we needed. Eroski also had them at 239, so too did Media Market - at the same location as Carrefour. DVD players were best at Carrefour too - 50 Euros for a variety of brands. Ditto CD playes at 25 upwards.
No doubt there are other places where prices are similar - eg Euronics and possibly El Corte Ingles (at sale time).
Simon - tee hee you're probably right - we Scots as you know will do anything to make us look better (an unachievable aim, I hear you (and Skell) say!) Look forward to catching up when we are all out at the same time. Current plans = 4 to 11/1/09 and early April - to celebrate 35 years of wedded bliss.......................

Hi everybody
Does anybody know whether an analogue TV would work on a PW site. As we have a spare one we could possibly use over there. Or do you difinitely need a digital TV.
Thanks for any info. which will be appreciated.

No, Spain uses PAL B/G and the UK PAL I, so you will get a picture but no sound on analogue. ( Unless your TV is multisystem of course )
But assuming your TV has a scart connector then if you get a TDT digital reciever in Spain, about 30e, you'll be able to use it ok.

Ohhhhhhh - I am so confused with all this telly stuff. Mind you it doesn't take much these days.... If I want a few English channels with no monthly fees then can someone advise me on the cheapest/easiest option? I have a spare Sky box which I can take over but will it serve any purpose without a Sky card? Can I buy a freeview box in Spain to get English channels? Oh the questions just keep coming. Am even driving myself batty now. Arlene

Thanks Phil for your reply. Have just looked at my tv instructions and it seems I can tune it in to different countries. Is this what you class as multi-system. As like Arlene we are also totally confused.
Cheers for info.

Hi Val and Arlene
Val, if your TV says it can be used in Spain them I guess it must be able to recieve PAL B/G. Must admit I do not know what stations are available on analogue? Like the UK , Spain is switching over to digital.. Thier service is called TDT, which is like UK freeview, so to get those channels on your old analogue TV you will need to get a TDT reciever ( 30e in Euroski ).
The only way to get UK programs in Spain is via a satelite box either your own or the PW one. No you do not need a SKY viewing card. Without a card the box will give you access to the FTA channels, with a FreeSat card from sky you will also get the FTV ones as well, basically just SKY3 plus the channel 4/5 programs ( see www.ftasat.co.uk )
The tricky bit is how Polaris World are providing the feed? ( Techy bit coming ) The sky signal is transmitted in four groups, with a passive receiver, one that cannot drive the LNB directly, you would normally only be able to get one of those groups ( see http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/splitters.htm for info ) so to provide access to all channels PW must be doing something to the signal. If you look at the PDF file I posted earier from PW Telecom it lists all the available channels and states that if you bring your own SKY box out you would be able to get all your subscription channels ( for a 30E+VAT connection fee ). This file was sent to me from customer services and applies to La Torre and El Valle, they tell me that they 'expect' the same services to be available at Condado, guess we will have to wait and see.. Telecom have been on site since the start on Nov connecting everything up.
Like Arlene I have a spare SKY box that I'm bringing out with me in Jan. hopefully all this will have been sorted by then.
Phil
