Hi to all.
We've just arrived back from 5 lovely days in Roda. We noticed work going on, lorries and building materials on the hotel development site. We asked in the golf pro shop, and the guys there said that the car park is being extended and tennis courts are being built. Also, someone mentioned that the sales office (old club house) is going to be a shop. Has anyone else heard this?
Also, there is going to be a bus service from Roda to San Javier. (we have a house at Senorio de Roda that's up for sale-that's how I heard this). Not sure of the route or timetable, but this is supposed to start from tomorrow- 2nd Feb.
A little progress hopefully. Roda looked fantastic! We asked about the start of the season for the beach club, and we were told April. That seems early, but great if it's true.

Yes, it looks like the old clubhouse will be a mini supermarket.

That’s really good news, looks like the finger may be out. It’s nice to be able to offer renters a little more, especially those that do not drive in Spain. A shop on site, transport into town and the beach club opening early that can be reached via bus & boat from Roda............. excellent!!!!!!!

Hi Ray
Just to let you know, the bus service is nothing to do with Roda Golf. It's a publc bus, I said I'm not sure of the route or the timetable. Don't know if anyone else knows. It's come about due to signatures at the town hall (from residents at Senorio de Roda community). The bus may well start from Los Alcazares to San Javier - that would be great.

As many of you will have been notified but to those who have not - this is fantastic good news received from Ana Escribano today!
"It is with great pleasure that we would like to inform you of some exciting new developments that will be unfolding at Roda Golf & Beach Resort in the near future.
Firstly, we are improving access to the golf course, shop and restaurant, by commencing work on a brand new easy-access parking area conveniently situated next to the putting green and hole 9.
Alongside the new parking area, work is about to get underway on the construction of our new sporting facilities, which on completion will enable you to enjoy tennis and paddle tennis on dedicated courts, as well as a range of sports including basketball and five-a-side football on the new multi-sports court. Located opposite the hole 7 lake in a private lot within the complex, these new facilities are expected to be completed by this summer.
In addition, we are currently in the final stages of negotiation with a number of partners with regard to construction of the new shopping centre and work is expected to begin in the coming months.
For more information about any of the projects listed above, please don’t hesitate to contact our Customer Services team.
You can find this information and the hotel information in our web."

In the clubhouse as we speak and can confirm work on the carparking is well underway. It is good news if the other facilities go ahead soon, I believe they are awaiting final commitment from a couple of businesses to commence work on the commercial centre.
Surely Roda would gain great benefit from publicising this rather than just sending an odd email but thanks for info Sandra

Hi
Yes this is mostly good news. With the success of the golf course, the existing car park is inadequate and too far from the clubhouse.
The resort is in much need of these sports facilities, along with the commercial centre.
But .... and there is always a BUT with Calidona, the prime spot on the site is opposite the 7th green and was reserved for the De Vere Hotel. This plot is now going to be used for the sporting facilities. It worries me that there might never be a hotel at Roda and that De Vere will build one only at Corvera. Remember the PGA intend to set up there eventually.
I have posted two photographs as a reminder of what was originally promised at Roda.

The implications of the last post are quite worrying. No Hotel, then no to the prestigue for our location that would come with it.
Is it possible that they intend to fob us off with JUST some (much needed) sporting and commercial facilities, and hope that complaints about the hotel not being built will die down and eventually be forgotten about?
I hope not, BUT .......

Hello Amazon
The implications of the previous posting about the hotel would be worrying only if we were sure that Felices Dias was 100% sure of his facts ie had spoken to De Vere and had the information directly from them. Perhaps he will enlighten us.
The initial plans for the hotel showed the hotel facing the 7th green but there is a lot of space facing the 7th green and as there is no fairway and only the water feature, a lot of space along the water too. From my recollections the sports facilities were supposed to be along the side of the commercial centre which also runs towards the 7th lake. If indeed Felices Dias is correct and the tennis facilities are on the hotel site, this may be a temporary measure as it would not make sense for owners to have to negotiate a building site for the commercial site to reach the courts.
Whilst the forum is very useful for exchanges of views and opinions on what to buy and where to go/eat etc we need to be careful on this forum to pass on only definitve information which we are completely certain about, as in the current climate it is not helpful to anyone from owners, potential buyers, sellers or indeed renters if the information is only opinion and not verified.

Points well made. But worth checking exactly what Calidona's real intentions actually are, and if as you suggest the sports facilities may only be sited here temporarily.

We have a family interested in renting our apartment in the summer but they are particularly keen to play tennis and, I am sure, would be interested in the other sports facilities. I have said to them that these projects are going ahead and 'should be ready by the Summer' but am nervous about making promises. Are there any signs that this is actually happening and has anyone heard any dates mentioned.

Just back from Roda today The new car Park is complete and in use it also looked like they have moved onto working on other things so progess at last.
I can also say the service in the club house was excellent and the food was quicker than it ever was under the old management.

Hi Arky25,
The old club house is going to be a shop but not sure when it will open, and the old pro shop is now the roda sales.
Will be taking some pics tomorrow to show a few new bits.
Cheers
Mike
