Hi
We caught the train in from Alhama to Murcia a couple of weeks back and it was much easier than taking a car into the city centre. It takes 27 mins from Alhama and cost us £3.90 return (that was on a Sat, I think it's cheaper in the week).

Murcia station was pretty central - only about 15 minute walk up to the cathedral. We didn't explore the whole city but found plenty of restaurants in the bit we did look round. There were quite a few in the square around the cathedral and we ate in an other square (San Juan Plaza?) about 5 minutes walk from there at a really nice italian called Mamma Mia's. Was a welcome change after wandering around Totana for an hour the night before and not finding one single restaurant! Definitely want to go back to Murcia next time we're over.

Debs,
Re: your comment on lack of restaurants in Totana. We were there during the day earlier this month to get some patio pots etc and formed the same impression while we were exploring the town along the main street which runs alongside the dried up river bed. I have since been told that this is not the area that the bars & restaurants are in and instead of heading straight up to the main street as you enter Totano coming in from Condado you take a right turn and then come to a road that runs parallel and this is where the main socialising area is. Got to be missing something because I remember Terry & Jill doing a feature on their site about the tappa's trail. I think Terry produced a map of the trail also.
Regards,

Cheers Will. We'll have to do some more exploring in Totana next time we go - we knew they must be there somewhere but after an hour of walking round starving we got back in the car and went to Camposol!

Ted/everyone
The link to the trains is great.
A couple of questions
Is there only one train from Alhama to Murcia (I assume Murcia del Carmen is the same Murcia, dont know what del Carmen means sorry thick Englishman syndrome) as the time table only shows a train at 08.54. If not how do we find the other times on the timetable?.
Is there any substantial bus services in the area?
Has anyone tried the train from Alicante Airport to Alhama/Totana and if so what was the time/cost for trains and taxis etc to CDA
Cheers
Paul
