Up to date info on car hire please

Hi.

We have friends going out to our apartment ( possibly mid first week in Octobe)r with their two young children

Will need to hire a car from San Javier Airport.

Can anyone advise please  who is the best at the moment.

There were problems when we were out in June & we paid a lot more than we did the previouse year for the same dates ( well almost )

We've been using DoYouSpain and the last few times 'RecordaCar' or it may be 'Record Cars'- everything was okay with them and prices didnt seem as inflated as other people told us theirs had been.

I would advise you to look around every time. I have used doyouspain on a couple of occassions and carjet on others in the last 12 months. Last month when I booked a cabriolet for the week as a treat, having tried both of my regulars and coming up with extortionate sums, I ran a search on travel supermarket. This came up with a deal from economycarhire which was 200 euros cheaper than my other quotes - a significant saving.

I think it is a bit like house & car insurance, if you do not regularly take a comparrison check you will surely get mugged. The internet takes all the hard work out of it for us now.

Beware, recordacar charge for a full tank of fuel if you hire the car for 4 days or more and this is 65 euro,  we did 4 days on our last trip and it cost just over 130 euors through them , i wasn't happy and wont be using them again, plus the car we got had done over 120,000k

bearing in mind that the prices over there for diesel are 93 cents a ltr, its pretty expensive what they are charging as you can fill the tank up for round the 40 euro mark

We used to use doyouspain but haven't the last couple of times as they are not as competitive as they were.  We have been looking for Oct car hire too and found beneluxcars.co.uk to be the best.  We used them last time and had no problems at all.

Comments noted about recordacar- we have only hired for 8 days or more so hadnt noticed this 'full tanl' issue. However we also hired a Berlingo- not the most stylish but loads of room and seemed very economical on the deisel we were only topping up day before returning to the airport and had been all the usual places including into the Sierra Nevada on each occasion.

Jan- your enquiry about my forum name- The Quiet Man is an old black and white film starring John Wayne about an boxer who hangs up his gloves and vows never to  fight anyone again and stubbornly refuses to do so despite being taunted unmercifully untill finally he does have to get into a fight. . My father in law gave me the nick name because I've always been very stubborn and wont be pushed around and I trained as a boxer in my younger years, although  I have never struck a blow in anger and hope I never will.

We have used rentspain a few times and the last time we used holiday autos. The only thing I can advise is check out as many as you can. Hope they find what they are looking for
