Hi all

We have finally got our apartment. All we need to do now is get the furniture and electrical goods. We are playing with the idea of bringing most of the items from the UK as when we were over in October we thought that most of the goods were more expensive....

Wanted to ask the forum if anybody else thought the same and have taken their goods over from the UK.

Can the UK  stuff be plugged into the spanish grid without problems?

Any advise would be good.

Glad to hear that those in CDA are getting some of the white stuff. We are getting quite a lot at the mo so staying in with a nice fire and watching xmas telly

Neil

Hi Neil

Last time we were over we bought our 32 inch  Samsung TV from Saturn for 360 euros and when unpacked it had a 3 pin plug on so left it like that for gaurentee purposes and just used an adaptor. The big items can be swings and roundabouts so to speak costs to take over versus if they break down getting it repaired or replaced. Small items can be carried in suitcases so may be worth taking over, we bought DVD player over and was a lot cheaper.

Why do you have The Millers avator or you Rotherham born or bred or just support them?

Jane

Hi Neil

Yep the voltage is the same, no problems there.  We brought over TV, kettle, toaster and coffee maker as the choice on Spain is no where as good as the UK and the prices are much higher there too.   I changed all the plugs to Spanish ones too, cheaper than using adaptors.

One thing to consider re the white goods, be sure to check that they have a european wide guarantee. A lot will only be covered in the UK, and it's a llong way to take back if there's a problem when you install.

We used Real Domestics- good variety , competitive prices and they speak English. They delivered, fitted and removed packaging so all electrical goods (white, chrome and silver available) where in situ day we arrived. Bought microwave, F/Freezer. w/machine, d/washer, kettle and toaster from them. Saved loads of hassle and we had considered bringing these items from the UK but sat and worked it out and this, for us at the time, turned out to be much cheaper- and we genuinely dont see a difference in quality.

Having those in place with the beds made getting in the apartment much easier than anticipated. We bought two sun loungers  and the bedroom lamps on route from the airport and sort of camped- then spent 5 days taking deliveries and shopping from dawn to dusk!

Wouldnt recommend Real Domestics unless we thought they were good but we were really impressed with their service.

Hi,

I bought everything in the UK (fridge/Freezer, Washer/Dryer, Dishwasher, Microwave, TV, DVD, Kettle, Toaster etc.) I bought a pack of adapters from ebay and everything is still working fine 18 months later.

Due to my work, I can only get a few days in spain at at time, so I didnt want to be shopping on those visits.

Boughts everything in Uk, stocked up my garage, then drove down, set everything up. I have since enjoyed 18 months of stress free holidays!

As pointed out though, there was a problem with a seal on my freezer door, I stupidily told hotpoint that it was in Spain and they refused to cover the item under warrantee, so do ensure that everything works properly before setting off to Spain.

Hey, you know how to rough it Jann !!

We also used Real Domestics for the main kitchen items. They are very competetive price wise and can supply well known brands which they fit and get up & running for you. Generally things are more expensive in Spain for this type of thing but you have to factor in the transport costs. I found the likes of TV, dvd, microwave, cheaper to buy in UK (at last years xmas sales)for the brands I wanted and utilised a transport run Alan was doing for me to bring other items, so better that way for us.

Regards,

Hi neilp,

Bringing stuff from the UK is obviously easy from a language point of view, but I wonder how the warranty works.  We recently bought white goods from a place on the corner by a beautiful church in Alhama.  Go up past the town hall and take a right.    Radio Ruis (or something like that).  They didn't speak any English, but we made ourselves understood.  We asked for deliver within the hour both times and we got it.  It was an adventure worked extremly well for us and it was a bit of an adventure.  Seriously, they gave us a great service.  In our haste, we even order the wrong item once and they just took it back and refused to take any money for the wasted time.

I hope all goes well, whatever you decide to do.

Ken
