OUR FRIENDS HAD AN ELECTRICIAN AT THEIR PROPERTY IN CAMPOMAR. WHILE CARRYING OUT THE WORK HE INFORMED THEM THAT IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED A NEW CONTRACT WITH IBERDOLA BY 20TH DEC 2009 THEN ALL ELECTRICITY AFTER THAT DATE WOULD COST 30% MORE.
THEY WENT TO THE LOCAL OFFICE AND PEOPLE WERE THERE SIGNING NEW CONTRACTS TO AVOID THE ADDITIONAL PAYMENT. HAS ANYBODY ELSE HEARD ABOUT THIS AND WHERE WOULD WE FIND SUCH A LOCAL OFFICE?

Queried this with our family's Solicitors and they rang Iberdrola only to get confirmation that we have already signed a contract. So I think this is a confusion and only relevant to new customers.

All I have been to our Administrator who called Iberdrola on our behalf andthey confirm ALL CONDADO is on a new contract under the new Law.
If you have not signed a contract then call 901 202 020 wait for end of recordedmessage then you can speak to a human

Our solicitor has followed this up for us and says that Iberdrola are sending new contracts out to our apartment.
TQM- maybe you are already on a new contract as I recall you have completed recently.

So these new contracts are being sent to our apartments (mail boxes). Is there a deadline of the 20th of December for returning as mentioned in the first post ? I find this hard to believe at such short notice.
Regards,

Hi Will, hadnt thought of that point. We wont be at the apartment until 26th Dec anyway. I also think ours was being sent to the apartment because the Solicitor requested that, not that it's the standard practice. But I will check that-just when we thought it was sorted!

these contracts were mentioned in another thread a month or two back. When we went to our apartment last week (first time in 2 months) there was nothing in our letter box. So we can't assume anything is going to be posted to us.

Paul,
Stop panicing!!!
I work in the energy industry and have asked Iberdola what is happening.
Older properties in Spain were not fitted with a MI (Mains interupter). This basically limits the amount of power a property can draw from the grid and trips if the limit is exceeeded.
Any property that does not have a MI fitted has to sign a new contract which includes a penalty charge which increases the cost of electricity by about 30%. This is part of Iberdola's commitiment to carbon reduction. (See below link if interested)
The IMPORTANT BIT
This does not effect Anyone on Condado as all our apartments have MI's fitted, I believe rated at 25A.
We are all on the "new" contract

Thanks for that info- that explains our Solicitors info in that we have a contract but one will be posted to us- which did confuse us a tad but we put that down to translation.

Still on Iberola but slightly off beam.....can someone confirm whether the bills are paid monthly or every other month once you are connected?
We paid connection in September and had our first bill in October but nothing since. I was expecting a bill next week but a friend of ours who has a place further up the coast pays his bills monthly so now we're not sure!
Any help appreciated.

Was this 29euros for actual electric used ? We had our connection fee taken in October and today we had an e-mail saying the same amount of 29euros as well. Sound a bit of a coincidence unless it's another fixed cost from Iberdrola.
Can anyone advise on this ?
Thanks

Although the bill is produced bi-monthly they only take a actual reading every other month, the other one being an estimate. I would guess that yours are both estimates. The Standing charge is about €15 plus IVA.
When you go over to your apartment next you should find a paper bill in your mail box.
On the bottom of this is a registration number. you can then register for the on-line service.
The benefit of this is that they notify you by email a few days before taking payment from your bank with the amount due and of course you can check your bills then on-line.
The website link is:-
