Yes ,you got it.The split in each end is for the grub screw to locate in.

Passing B&Q so had a nosey and then got as they had 1m x 8mm square aluminium spindles for around £6. Not sure if Aluminum is upto the job and steel ones were only much smaller of 10mm.

Decided to consult Mr Google now I know what I need and came across this.

Drilled and Tapped Spindle 126mm
Drilled and tapped spindle approximately 126mm long. Suitable for use where fixing is by a grub screw inserted throught the spindle, into the neck of the door furniture. Spindle is tapped 3/16in Whitworth thread.

This would be ideal but still slightly short I guess

 Not Smooth

The doors on CDA are much thicker than normal, so the tapping might not be in the right place!
