Dave (Shampers) well said, good reality check
We bought at cda to have somewhere in the sun not too far from home to chill. I am fortunate in that I have now retired and Ann is hopefully retiring at the end of this year, so we will then be able to come and go as we please.
We have been lucky enough to have visited numerous parts of the world, but we still have places we intend to visit, but in the future as we get older and long haul flights are no longer so attractive and travel insurance to far flung places becomes expensive we will still have our bolt hole in the sun.
From the day we decided to buy at cda we have had numerous ups and downs with the development and most of those issues have been discussed on this forum which has help us though any worries or doubts we have had along the way, people on this forum in the main have become friends even if we haven’t yet met in person and those we have met in person even more so.
Every time I have a doubt about our decision to buy we just go back out and have a look at the resort and refresh our love for it, even as it is.
Yes the road ahead is a little uncertain but we now own hear and have a hand in its future, the only people that can spoil it is ourselves. I am not saying we should pretend everything is OK and say nothing, those who know me on the forum, know I would be at the front of the queue to have my say when thing are not right and will be at the AGM, but we do have an excellent resort in an idyllic location. We should make sure we do all we can to make sure it is the 5 star resort we all bought into, even if it isn’t at the moment as big as the original promotion we were given, and to me that’s not all bad.
Just as happy with our decision today as the day we signed the contract, so thanks for reminding us Dave.
Regards
Phil

Wow - And I stopped contributing to this site awhile ago because I thought I was the only one with positive thoughts. Made many great friends through this site, most of whom I've met at CdA. I'm sure I will make and meet many many more. Had lots of good breaks/holidays at "my little bit of Spain." Plans may not have worked out for CdA or PW as we anticipated. Nothing I can do will change that. But I have a great apartment in a great location, that I my family and friends shall enjoy for a long time to come. Of course more sevices etc will come over time. Glass overflowing.
Will be there from 28th May - 4th June
Looking forward to catching up with old and new friends.
I'll be the one chatting to the flipsy flopsies at the corner of the bar. They're teaching me Spanish. Last phrase I learnt was "Get off and get out or we'll call the police."

Great thread...... Just back yesterday after 5 day break sorting some bills and non resident tax bills. Took my mum in law for first time. She had 12 chemo sessions last year and is recovering well. As usual we had Fantastic time Things we loved:
It only takes 40 mins from airport now we know where we are goin
Our bank manager on La Torre sorts everything right first time
Terry n Jill upbeat, happy, cheerful and such a lot of help
Hertz car rental excellent
First time in new restaraunt... what a surprise... excellent...... food, service, wine list staff beautiful decor
Clover... great. Had nice chat with Patricia the new Brazilian blonde manageress and a couple of the other barmaids. Wont a few of you whingers try to talk a little Spanish to be understood. Service good, served immediately, local drinks reasonably priced, agree about dance music being a little monotenous but I,m sure my son and daughter don't complain.
Surrounding towns beautiful, lovely drive through mountains to Catagena from Mazzaron. Monasterio through Totano is beautiful. New bars at Mar Menor looked nice on way past.
New telly channels, granite tops, joinery, air con all completed correctly and first time by craftsmen both British and Spanish
Our neighbours are brilliant. Isn't it great to talk to everyone in a morning or when you pass them. Kids playing in safety.
No car noise at night
Back next month

Hi Dave,
Brilliant comments, I am more optimistic about the resort than ever now after reading that little lot. I have known you for a long time and your reputation for being a grumpy old pessimistic Man City loving Scotsman is well earned and for you to wax lyrical about our resort is more than enough proof for me that things are going in the right direction.
Have you played the course yet? As the man responsible for introducing me to Golf all those years ago at Weirs, I am interested to know if you can get round in less than the customary 150 shots yet [and that total included cheating].
Only kidding Dave, we are over again in early August for a week and hope to play a couple of rounds with my son Ryan, possibly one in the CDA society if places are available.
Good to hear your mum-in-law is on the mend and enjoying life. All the very best to you and your family, hope to see you soon.
Cheers Dakey

You still carrying 21 clubs in your bag??? ha ha. Bought a new putter and sand iron and used excellent practice facilities. Didn't have time to sneak off for a round. Stood on first tee and..........................WOW. Looks amazin. I've played La Torre, Mar Menor And El Valle a couple of times each but the undulations from tee to green and even on the green are quite somethin. Met a couple of your neighbours from Jardin 12 while over. Kev the joiner and a lad called Mike doin some building for his mum and dad. Very nice people. I'll let you treat me to a round if we can get there together.

Hi Shampers
I wasn't going to answer to this thread but it is great to see so many oldies reply !! (By name only ..... honest x my fingers behind my back) LOL!
Why did I buy? About 4 years ago I had some idea that if I had a place somehere to get away from all bla bla bla in the sun why not be a field in spain , bulgaria, or cyprus, but I decided I would like a great big old sod in Costa Calida!!
I thought is there a future here?
I have never played golf. But some day who knows?.
I thought this was the last corner of Spain that has not been developed , it's going somewhere .
....................................................Yes I've loved it ever since.
Condado de Alhama is going to be a mixed culture , and it is!!! Not just boring Brits!!!!
Now I'm going for my Cocoa nite nite x

I knew you were all still here somewhere.....Just like the good old days
Everyone that has posted on here has given at least one reason for buying that matches ours. We still love it. Yes, there are things that we didn't expect but the positives far outweigh the negatives. The best are the many fantastic friends we've made both on here and in person.
Love you all loads xxx
June (I'm sure a few of you still owe us a drink)

We bought with an idea of running a small holiday rental company liked to golf holidays. We liked the CdA concept and proposed facilities, although I was a bit disconcerted by the 15,000 properties antiicpated as I worried we were going to end up a town like many others. However, though a little disappointed the expected plans haven't come to fruitian I really like the apartments and Jardins and I actually like the fact we are more compact resort than expected. In time, with a bit of development of the Al Kasar, improvement of the land around the golf course and a golf club house (temporary or otherwise) plus something happening with the sports zone I really think CdA can achieve 5*. I'm hopeful the new management company have the bit between their teeth and so I have joined the glass half full cohort!!!

Brilliant Thread.
Feb 2007. I remember it well........dust track and all. Standing on what can only be descibed as mound of mud over looking some scrawny looking orange trees the agent said "the apartments will spring up here in no time and you 'll have mountain views in vitually all directions and the first constructed golf course will be over there." It took a bit of imagination but we bought in to the plan. Three and half year later and although there's been some ammendments to the original plan are we happy?
NOT ARF!!!
Whether like us you are young (ish) family with 2 kids or a retiring couple this resort has the potential to keep us all happy for many years to come, it's already well on the way and we must all be delighted with what we have considering what could of happened.
We were all extremely concerned at christmas that the wheels would completely come off and now look with a little giggery-pokery PW have managed to ride out a very nasty storm. The golf course is very very good and the facillities will match it eventually. They will have to especially as this course will host major events i'm sure ot that. It has already hosted so many pro tournaments for a course so new it's incredible. For those that don't like golf the community seems 99% happy and positive and with Jill & Terry organising more and more social events that positivity will only increase. A few more bars/eateries would not go a miss but if they can do it at Mar Menor in these conditions is there any reason why they can't do it here?? We just gotta keep a little patience and wait and we'll not be disappointed.
Another reason that we bought on CDA was the location, mountains one way the sea the other. Beautiful beaches to explore and for those that have not ventured up to the Sierra Espuna...what ya waiting for? It's stunning and the views from up there are breathtaking. Two great cities within 30 mins drive with more culture and charm than could wish for as well as all the countless "REAL SPANISH" towns to visit and eat in!!!
I could go on and on but you already know all this you've bought on CDA and you're no MUG!!!
In the mean time just chillax on your patios, your terraces, maybe go for a stroll along the tree lined streets or head up the clover for nice cold pint of Estrella or maybe a Faustino V for the ladies. Magic!!!!
Peace to you all. See ya in middle of June or for most of August
Jay

Well said Jay, we're there in June and August with our 3 daughters, their partners and our two young grandchildren. If we hadn't bought the apartment they would not have been able to afford a holiday. So a massive plus for us is we spend it with our family. BBQ's on the patio, can't beat it.

Totall agree you Chris and Tracy. We have 4 children aged between 15 and 2 yrs.. You can imagine how much it costs for a 'package holiday'! We have booked flights for 5 of us in the summer for less than £500 and for October half term for 7 of us for the knockdown price of £539! Book early is our advice! My 7 year old twins have made loads of friends, all of our neighbours are lovely people and the most important thing is that it is safe for them to go as they please. At Condado they are allowed to ride their bikes around the Jardines because i know they will be safe. They will grow up with the other kids and hopefully have friends for many years to come.
Yes we all know it's not what we were sold but we love it! It's so relaxing over there and many of our friends and family think the same - they have never had a more relaxing break. It's the peacefullness that we love and the friendliness of everybody - we are near the end and everyone who passes will say hello. We wanted to be away from the bustle of Spain and this is what we have got. What more can i say - we love it too!

Hi Everyone,
We bought on Cda with friends, we both have 4 yr old daughters. It was ideal for us, as us guys play golf and love our sports and beer, the wives love sunning it and drinking wine(responsibly). Our daughters can go out and play safe, Don't have to worry about package hol prices going up in the summer hols, we book a flight and go. We got a 3 bed on Jardin 9, we bought it off plan and I don't think you could get a 3 bed apartment for the price we paid anywhere else, especially with a golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.
The scenery is fantastic, with the mountains all around.
Back out in 3 wks, so if you see 6 kids, I mean 4 adults & 2 Girls, come and say hello.
WE LOVE IT.
Brett & Rach, Mark & Rach.
