Washing machine stolen from ground floor in penthouse 11. Don't think it is opportunist theft, as 2 bikes gone in next block a couple of weeks ago. Think CCCTV is only solution as security won't spot them. Also how do they get them out of resort? Don't think they are still here as distinctive bikes would be spotted immediately.

It only seems to be a major problem in holiday season (July and August). Never hear of anything outside these months. Don't think it is related to market on Saturdays.

I don't mean to trivialise the seriousness of the thefts that have happened and of course I'm sympathetic to the victims, but suggesting the installation of CCTV throughout the resort is a gross over-reaction IMO.

That would cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of Euros, which would of course a have to be met by the community. Is that really worth it for a few bikes and some clothes? Again, I'm not trivialising the recent thefts, just trying to put them into a bit of perspective.

I think some or maybe even most of the thefts could be avoided if we just took the same security precautions we do at home, and make sure our belongings are out of sight and securely locked away. I think most of us (and I include myself in this) drop our guard when we're on holiday and aren't as security conscious. Sad if that has to change as it's part of the fun of being on holiday that you can be a bit more carefree, but I think that would be a far more cost effective solution than CCTV.

I agree about resort wide cameras being too expensive but putting them at gatehouse may well be an option.

I think more proactive work by security instead of reactive would be good. Searches of vans and random car searches are needed. Incoming searches of vans also required. This is seconds of a job but good deterrent, any visiting refusal means no entry to resort

Cappie right about securing your belongings as sad as it may be, do here with your property as you would do at home.

If you read another thread (Stollen clothes from our terrace) you will see that I too have suggested cameras & yes you are correct the whole idea is somewhat drastic & very expensive but for those who have had items stolen I guess their feelings would be different. I leave washing out on my line @ home & go out for the day.I see childrens bikes etc left on drives for hours & they remain there because most houses have their own security cameras. We have not had a breakin in the area for many many years which was not the case when the houses were built 17 years ago. Cars were stollen, Sheds broken in to as too were houses but not now.

So though cameras are a great expense & we are thinking ofinstalling one outside our apartment anyway then maybe it is the only solution

Hiya folks

We had our washing machine stolen last November ground floor Penthouse 1. Makes you sick to your stomach and angry at the same time.  We also have had quite a few hoses stolen and I would be pretty miffed now if it hadn't been nicked I mean what is wrong with the hose than it is still there on the wall.  So can't afford a new machine at the moment as we have recently moved and decorating our house also my integrated cooker (previous owners) blew up on Christmas Day.  Family told me I would look back on this and laugh one day - it hasn't happened yet.

Can really sympathise with people who have had anything stolen and at the end of the day we are all in a community together.

Security or not, how on earth can someone walk onto an open terrace, open a cupboard door, disconnect a washing machine (this has happened more than once) and walk off with it. Not to mention it would require more than one person to lift it.

In the past I think I would be nervous about questioning anything like this for fear of being accused of interfering if it was a genuine move by the owner, but maybe now we should all contact security if we do see anything perceived to be suspicious and if its genuine, no harm done.

I think if I was removing something from my own property and was questioned about it I would be more than happy that 1. I was challenged and 2. I could prove who I was.

It is however more difficult to notice wrong doing with things mobile e.g. Bikes as people move things like this all the time.

Just to add to the list of stolen objects, two solar spinner lights and two table lanterns disappeared from the patio of a ground floor apartment on Jardines 8 last weekend. The spinners were hung from the pergola so they were either taken by a very tall person or someone standing on one of the patio chairs. This doesn't sound like kids messing about.

Sadly, its not the only theft of lights on in this vicinity, others were taken from the wall of an upstairs apartment a few doors down a few days earlier.

I had a mountain bike took from my garden last Monday whilst we were in bed

Any truth in rumour that 42 bikes have been reported stolen in Condado this summer??????

Not sure about the figures ( a bit exagerated in my opinion), but we know that quiete few bikes were stolen.
I wonder how the resort will be like when the building works start in Paramount.

Its a shame what is happening on site with all these thefts, always left stuff out when on holidays there, one of the things that attracted me to Condado was the security and safe feeling I had when there , got to get that back and quickly before it becomes rife and a expected way of life not right. I have been in and out of site loads of times in van never been stop or searched why dont the security start searching all vans and estates car and workers vechicles capable of moving these big objects from the site in and out ,is there an alturnative way of the site beside the security gates ? .Also security should start a registration of all owners bikes on site giving them some sort of I D card or  number with a picture taken of the bike by the owner supplied with documentation of there details all for a nominal fee. But the end of the day people have got to be more vigilant and active in taking care of there property times are hard people are desperate and theres not much cake about.

It's called the silly season for a reason-the summer holidays that is. People on site have worked hard over the last two years or so to make CDA more attractive and vibrant to visitors and that hard worked has succeeded with numbers massively increased. With that comes a greater proportion of less desirable people who will take advantage and both damage the place and steal property.

Because prices are low with over supply of rental, this allows people to come on site who in the original Polaris vision would not have been able to afford it, and many owners who need rental income to pay the bills offer ridiculously low prices. This means the quality aspect of the community has been lowered to accommodate renters who have no allegiance to the community and will take advantage of previously slack personal security. This is a sad fact of life and for now we need to adjust to deal with the problem.

Security can do more but there is a balance to be struck between encouraging visitors who spend and discouraging those that are predators. I think if Paramount starts up, demand for rental will increase beyond belief.This means prices will increase too and that will deter the type of people who are causing the problems in our busy seasons.

This is not meant to be some type of social commentary and I expect some on this forum will misinterpret these comments, however, quality costs money generally and people who wish to be part of a quality CDA will need to maintain standards on a whole range of issues by spending just that little bit more otherwise it will slip into something that resembled a Butlins camp of the 60's and 70's soon. It´s not only about bikes, cloths or dropping our guard. Material and money come and go...

In my opinion it´s more to do about privacy, intimacy and tranquility being violated!

Never thought that we were in a happy and nice people dream land, we always lock our doors and bikes, but when someone enters your terrace and helps him/herself that is outrageous!

Agree totally,Zidane! No one has any right to enter another persons property unless invited or on business! Then to help themselves to their personal belongings, it's inexcusable! To think clothes can't be left on a line, sorry but I really can't accept that. Certainly where I live , this has never happened to me or my family. Absolute violation. Sad thing is someone knows some of the perpetrators!

Talking to Spanish couple from La Isla recently...they have security cameras and no theft!!,

Regarding the issue of cameras and the obligation or otherwise of the community to supply same, has anyone noticed the cameras on the high poles around the security fence going round the resort? and these are the visible ones. I'm sure they are recording activity on the resort and is either being managed by security or millenium. It may be they need to be approached by the presidents to get answers. I also don't nesseccery agree with the idea that it is owner's or renter's carrying out this activity. Yes we live in very hard times and people will go to any lengths to make a buck, but what can you do with 45 recagnisable bikes and numerous washing machines etc. unless you are taking them off site to sell which sugests to me the perpetrators are local or have local knowledge and contacts.

The security cameras on the outer fence point outwards and monitor the outer road.  They are also linked to the perimeter fence movement detectors are are "surpossed" to automatically pan to any areas where a movement alarm has been detected.  I'm told that due to privacy laws they are not allowed to to turned to monitor or record inside the resort.

Rather than blame security or the presidents people should take their own security measures.  If you have a penthouse, fit a lock on the outside cupboard.  If you have outside furniture, move it in or lock it up when you leave.  Ok I agree that this "should" not be necessary if all our neighbours were honest but it appears they are not so it is up to use to safe guard our property.

I agree cameras are not the answer people who do this just cover there faces, prevention is the 1st think to put in place. ptan is right Its up to us all to look after are own property but he should not say things about are neighbours with out proof of who is doing these robberies
