I am really sorry to hear the news and they seems to be doing the rounds of the resorts and often the value of the goods taken is less than the cost of the damages and of course the inconvience of the reporting process but as I have said before on here there are lots of common sense low cost ways to protect the property as the last thing they want is to be discovered, it is all about prevention and deterrents
Lighting - simple PIR floodlights that you can buy locally that come on when anybody approaches, ask the people in properties above yours if they will also fit them so that they are too high for easy access. They can and do smash there and take out the memory cards but it is unusal for them to do this
There are many good low cost alarms out there, noise makers only but people will tell you that you cannot fit them, this is not true. One of the best is the Friedland SL2 kits, nice outside siren with flashing lights and they work well with their combination of motion sensors and magneting contact breakers. In the same range they offer a dummy box and it is impossible to tell the dummy box from a real one. We have many of these fitted and they have broken into the property next door rather than chance the alarm.. Also available fake cameras
Leave some power on to the property especially for the door bell because this is the normal way for them to check if a place os empty by testing the bell
Put a simple cheap timer onto a light and if you have a keyholer make sure that they adjust the timing as the season changes, this can also be connected to a radio but may new TV's have a capability where you can set timers
Hide your TV, perhaps under the bed sheets, we recently had a break in and they could not fine the TV so did not take anything and if you do have a safe leave it empty and open
You can and should fit extra window locks, screw through type bolts on sliding doors, sliding bolts on the blinds, pop type keylock on the windows, cheap and effective
Grills remain the ultimate thing, we have had concertina grills fitted on other resorts costing around €450 for a typical patio door or €170 for a window but be carefull because quality and prices can vary dramatically between suppliers. If they quote and take an order without first doing a survey avoid the company because window sizes can vary dramatically , even in the same type of property
You can buy very cheap individual alarms this are battery operated and stick to the doors and windows and go off if opened, they cost €2 and again a real expience was when somebdoy tried to break into a property this simple alarm went off and they didn't go in
The problem with real cameras is that there are different systems and really you need an internet connection to have them notify you of movements, or a phone line or internt to have an alarm that calls you
When it comes to security I am not advising anybody to do anything that I have not done on my own residential and holidays propeties, they all have grills, PIR lights and my resifdental home has IP cameras linked to the internet and an alarm that calls me
If anybody would like an other advice please mail me and I will be happy to help
