When staying at DV I mostly walk up and down to the port and other places. This gives one plenty of time to notice the many defects in the road, footpath, lighting etc. Whilst there has been minor improvements over the last two years there still needs to be significant work to bring the access up to standard.
It occurs to me that both holiday renters and prospective buyers must be put off by the poor quality of the access roads - unless the prospective buyers optimisitcally believe work is on-going.
If you were to walk through Manilva you and its immediate surroundings you would be astounded by the difference in the quality of the roads and footpaths. That have real stone slab pavements. The new town square is impressive. Even the lane at the back of DV that runs up to Manilva has been tarmaced (done in Nov 2013).
Where did all that money come from? Well I am sure some of it came from you and I. Those elected to run Manilva council clearly look after there electorate. With few actual voters living in estates like Duquesa Village is not surprising that our needs get neglected.
So I am very glad to see an initiative was reported at the AGM to pressure the council with legal action. The banks who still have many apartments to sell in DV will be keen to progress this and I am thankful that they are still an interested party as a suspect,
The interesting para in the minutes reads:-
"The president reminded the meeting of the problems outlined by Mr Jesús
Pérez Sesmero, member of the committee board, regarding the access to the
urbanisation, the lack of covers on manholes, the poor state of the roads, lack of
lighting, and the pot holes. Mr José ‘Pepe’ Torres made a photographic record for
the administration. This was sent to the council along with corresponding documents
on 15 November 2013 and to date we have not received a reply. The presidentsaid
they would give six months (until after summer) and if no reply was forthcoming they
community wouldinstruct its legal representatives to take any action possible."
Well done Mr Sesmero and Mr Torres.
When walking home one dark night and I inevitably fall and break a leg in a drain hole, I will be taking legal action myself.
