Hi everyone,

As someone who hasn't completed our property purchase yet (it's taking forever - I mean FOREVER - to get a mortgage in   place through our Limited Company!!) does anyone know whether water is still being brought in each day by lorry and electricity fed off the builders' supply?  Mortgage problems apart, we don't want to complete until the water and electricity is connected.  I have heard stories of builders on other developments saying don't worry, the electricity is free off our supply and then sending an overinflated bill so beware of that.  Also pretty impossible to rent out until it's all finished.

Also I'm not able to get a response from Ana or Carlos about having extras fitted (we want wardrobe shelves and mirrors in bathrooms as per showflat - too late for the spotlights, I'm peeved about that).  Has anyone had any joy with this and can advise how best to go about it?  Many thanks.

Keep your comments coming. It's great to have this lifeline to other buyers.

Cheers,

Jen

Hi Jenny B,   With response to your questions interesting about the electric supply, I will be looking out for a possible bill.  Ana gave me the impression that the water supply would be installed within the next few weeks.  That was when we were across end July, not heared anything since.  We are due back out the end of August for another visit so will check out power supply, until a proper supply is in place the lifts will not be operational.

As regards the extras the mirrors should be fitted as standard, ours were.  As regards the wardrobe fitings you may be just as well checking out IKEA in Malaga as the developers are no longer providing the service.  The other method would be to try and find out the contact for the carpenter from Ana ( dont hold your breath) and go direct to him.  We also had units fitted under the wash hand basins in the bathrooms by the same person.  I have not seen them yet but understand he has done a good job.

Spot lights we had fitted by the same company that supplied the furniture.

If you have a sticking out shower tray like most apartments seem to have then it is possible to have a shower door made to follow the outline.  I had one installed, not cheap, but looks good, I will take photo next time out and upload to the site.

Sorry this does not answer all your questions but may be of help.

Cheers

Brian ( Kyleman)

Many thanks for your info Brian.  Excellent news about the mirrors - I'll keep my fingers crossed!  I didn't know there was an IKEA store in Malaga, I shall certainly pay a visit.  I'm getting the main furniture items in a pack from Villapac but will be getting loose fixtures (lamps, kitchen equipment etc) locally and apart from the Hypercor at Puerto Banus don't have much of an idea of where other big stores might be.  I'm making the curtains myself because they are so long and have also picked up various other stuff here so I will drive down there with a full car once the furniture is ready to go in.  Probably a bit mad, but I'm looking forward to the trip!

We don't have a separate shower but instead had a bath (with shower over) put in the main bathroom as well as the en suite so my husband will be able to fit a shower screen easily.  Re the spotlights, I was assuming  that now the ceilings are all plastered and painted it would be too difficult to have spots fitted, but I will look into it.

I look forward to hearing how you get on on your next visit and hope the water and electricity are in by then.

Cheers

Jen

Hi Jenny B

As regards the spot lights, in our apartment which is a two bedroom, the ceiling above the kitchen, the hall entrance, the guest bathroom and the main bathroom are false ceilings.  The air con ducting is withing this ceiling space.  Cables will all be in place so to run extra cables for the spot lights should not be a problem.  All my spot lights were fitted in the kitchen, the entrace hall, the guest bathroom and small entrace hall and the main bathroom, after completion of the apartment.  The IKEA store is just as you approach Malaga along the main freeway visable on the left on a new commercial development that also has several factory type outlets.

In hind site I think I could have saved a considerable amount by taking a van down loaded up with stuff so not such a krazy idea, if you have the time go for it.  I did the journey some 30 odd years ago no problem then, roads should be better now.  If taking the car just think in terms of the odd items that you may take for granted in the UK that you may not find in Spain or if you do may be more expensive.

Best of luck

Brian

When we left the site on the 13th September we noticed that meters were being installed on all the buildings. I asked my lawyer how much we would have to pay for the use of the builder's electricity and was told that we would not have to pay for it at all. Once the electricity meters are in place, the lifts will be operational - at least that is what I was told, but I do find that the people working on site are not quite as truthful as they might be.

Thea/Peter,  thanks for the update.  We still haven't completed yet.  Our lawyer won't complete until we have the certificates for the water and electricity connections to the property from the developer.  He just cannot get hold of anybody since Eralia pulled out, so this forum is quite a lifeline to information!  I'd be grateful to know whenever anyone gets their certificate.  It's a waiting game!!

Cheers
