Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me if the Hotel construction has started?

We returned this week, and can confirm hotel foundations are dug but thats about it so far.

i dont think its due to be finished until 2009 though eh?

It seems like we should all add 12 months to original promises on all construction dates, looks like the same if not worse for Corvera.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Roda Hotel due for April 2007. Golf club must be finished by 1st December as they are holding a big PGA event that week

I think you may have made a typing error - April 2007 has been and gone!

 

Just got back from Roda, and we where told summer 2009. For a start there is only a big hole in the ground where the hotel will be.......not a brick laid. I know they are quick but the main club house would have taken 9 months by the time it’s finished, and that’s tiny in comparison.

It seems theres lots of activity at the Beach Club but as yet there still seems to be a standstill on the Hotel.

Here is an e-mail I received today.

Sorry for the delay Barry, we are getting flooded with requests at the site! I passed your query over to Stuart at Calida International Properties who had the following to say:

 

“The plan for the De Vere 5 star hotel has certainly not been cancelled! De Vere are very much committed to this, their very first project outside of the UK.

There has been much talk and speculation about the local politics, and the town hall officials, and it is true that there has been lots of upheaval in the San Javier and Los Alcazares town councils.

The reason for the delays are, as usual, the building licenses.  It really is a "chore" trying to get the building licenses and permissions for the various projects within the Roda Golf and Beach Resort. This is the only reason for the delays.

Work will be commencing on the De Vere hotel and the commercial centre very soon, we do not have an exact date, however watch this space, once work has been commenced, the building really does proceed at a considerable pace.

Stick with it Barry, it will happen.”

Hey barrygeo,  I think you have your wires crossed, I have read that story on the rodgolfinfo site, that site is nothing to do with Calidona, I don't think that is an official response, just a useful update.

I looked at the recently updated DeVere website last night and all previous references to Roda have been removed. There is now no mention whatsoever of Roda, which I find very worrying.

I have emailed DeVere to enquire if they still plan to develop in Spain and will post any reply I receive.

I'm a Corverian, but do monitor the Roda website regularly. There is so much to learn!!

I thought the De Vere relationship with Roda was signed as a 20 year contract in 1995:

I would be very surprised if De Vere reneged on this contract and the granting of licences is probably the issue. Please note no mention of De Vere and Corvera!!

Just came back from a very pleasant weekend at Roda and at least we saw a couple of diggers starting to (re)clear the hotel site on Monday.  It looked like they were clearing the weeds for a photo shoot rather than serious construction though.  In Spain there will be no guarantees that the hotel will be finished until we see the De Vere sign hanging outside the door!  De Vere have recently updated their web site, and I would not blame them for taking the Roda name off any publicity because of the delays alone.  With all the delays after the last election and a disfunctional coalition in power at the local town hall I would be surprised to see the hotel finished before 2010.

Anyone got an official answer on this query? have Roda got anything to say? did de vere get back to you?
We are quite worried about the whole delay and hotel situation and are considering selling up!

The Golf Shop and Course are both already run by DeVere and Geraldine in the office has a 'DeVere at Roda' logo on her business card, so it seems they still meen business.  All I can say is that now I have been out there and seen what it is like there is no way I am selling.  I am firmly convinced that we have made a good investment, even with the delay to the hotel.

I agree with Kblog, what will be will be, we are in it for the long haul as well and we love it.

Just imagine what Roda will be like a few years from now, wow!!!

I will offer another slant on this debate, the old club house was situated very close to the proposed hotel footings, can you imagine over the past 2 years sitting there outside having a meal whilst the diggers and bulldozers were churning up the dry soil, not a nice experience. Now that the new club house is open nothing stands in the way of the hotel now progressing. The glass is always have full in my eyes. Anyway I agree with many what will be will be, and if it is not Devere then i am sure it will be another hotel chain.

 

 

whats the hurry, the beach club is our next treat in July. people seem to have forgotten about it.
